Refill your bird baths daily for the birds. So many times their water sources dry up in the heat. Place a bowl of water in your yard for the birds and wildlife. Help save lives!

Sister Michael Marie: Traveling the Globe Rescuing Pets and Animals

Thousands of animals owe their lives to Sister Michael Marie! In recent natural disasters, Sister Michael Marie was in Japan, Brazil, the Gulf Coast and Chile on her mission of search-and-rescue to reunite pet owners with their lost pets. She seeks the wounded and lost animals, who otherwise would have little chance of survival. In Japan, Sister Michael Marie entered the areas at risk of radiation that had been evacuated to save pets that residents had abandoned having received orders to evacuate. People had left dogs and cats in their homes with food and water, thinking that they would only be away a few days. But the government did not permit their return. The nun, and other volunteers, accepted the hazards of entry into the contaminated areas, to treat animals they knew about and bring water and food to those who they could take back with them.

She was quoted in a news article as saying, "It's an important part of recovery for the people who are affected by the disaster. Once they know their animals are taken care of, they can concentrate on getting the rest of their lives back in order."

Sister Michael Marie is 37 years old and is part of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart and does her animal mission work through a non-profit group called KINSHIP CIRCLE. When disaster strikes, Sister Michael Marie answers the call of the "lesser brethren" and the love that God has for all of His creation.

PLEASE consider supporting Sister Michael Marie and KINSHIP CIRCLE today.

What Are Invisible Dogs?

We'll give you a few clues: some are playful pups, others are wise seniors. Some like long mountainous hikes, others prefer an uptown stroll. Most love belly rubs and lounging on couches with their people. All of them want a family of their own, and all have lots of love to give.

They sound just like regular dogs, right?

You guessed it, they are exactly like the dogs you see all around you... with one major difference... most of us don't see them.

Right now in your community, there are likely thousands of Invisible Dogs wishing someone like you would see them. They are tucked away in shelters, far from the eyes and thoughts of people who could spring them from their kennels and take them home.

Together, we can bring Invisible Dogs into the spotlight - and help them go home.

Forever Ellen

Beautiful Ellen was one of the dogs rescued from Michael Vick's dogfighting operation. She thrived under the love and care she received at Best Friends, and became a charming ambassador for pit-bull-type dogs everywhere. We had to say goodbye to Ellen recently, and while we will miss her terribly, all of us at Best Friends feel blessed to have known her. And we are so grateful to all of you who loved her, too. Farewell, Ellen Belly.
