China Youth Climate Action Network (CYCAN)

We are the first Chinese non-profit organization for youth action in the field of climate change. Our organization was jointly established by seven outstanding youth organizations in August 2007, combining their respective resources and strengths.

  • Our mission is to coordinate and provide services for organizations interested in promoting youth participation in civil society. Building on our domestic and international contacts we want to build a sustainable low carbon future. We want to inspire and guide young people to grasp the opportunities in China and tackle the challenges of climate change and the transition to a sustainable energy future. We support Chinese youth to become a new driving force to achieve global sustainable development.

  • Our focus: 1. We carry out extensive publicity work to raise public awareness on climate change and transition to sustainable energy through joint action and cooperation of Chinese and international youth groups; 2. We support and promote public participation and government action to respond to global climate change and energy issues; 3. We support the engagement of China's youth with the international community. More than 300 colleges and universities have participated in activities organized or sponsored by CYCAN. More than one million students or people were directly involved and indirectly influenced by our actions. CYCAN action has given strong encouragement to young people to better understand climate change and actively participate in addressing it. CYCAN provides a platform for aspiring young people for personal development and to explore new opportunities.

Climate change through the eyes of

Chinese youth

One of the significant results of Reform and Opening is that today Chinese, including youth are increasingly experiencing the urban and suburban experience of living in a market-based society, often using energy at equal or greater levels than in cities in more developed countries. Furthermore, Chinese youth are increasingly asked to make sense of climate change while facing social and economic issues problems found in the United States or Western Europe as responsibility has been placed on the individual to take care of housing, education, employment and other services as China has shifted from socialism to a market-based economy. Chinese youth have demonstrated that while larger structural processes like Reform and Opening are going on, they see responsibility for success and failure as resting on themselves. Looking at how Chinese youth define modern life for themselves, there might be lessons for those in North America and Europe who similarly face the daunting and complex problem of climate change amid the challenges of daily life.

Chinese Citizens Rise Up Against Domestic Pet Slaughter, Save 580 Dogs

Cultural differences about eating canines aside, many of the animals appeared to have chains and collars - indicating they were actually pets and not strays. Police complained about the protest but let it continue for 15 hours until the activists were able to raise $18,000 from a pet company and animal rights group to buy the load.

500 More Dogs in China Saved by Activists

On the night of April the 19th, an urgent message via Weibo (Chinese Twitter) said that there was a truck filled with caged dogs coming towards the Fumin-Kunming Highway. Hundreds of loving citizens came to the toll station on the highway within half an hour in an effort to stop the truck, which has to pass through there. The volunteers called local police and at 11pm the truck, with 505 dogs in 156 cages, was stopped at the toll station on the highway of Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province, southwest of China.

THE ART OF LIFE

Danny O'Driscoll-Wildlife Artist

www.dannyodriscoll.com

Hello, my name is Danny O'Driscoll and I would like to personally welcome you to my web site. I grew up in Charleston, SC and began my art career as an illustrator with Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC. So I have now been a professionally working artist for about 38 years. My work has appeared in publications such as Artist Magazine, Airbrush Magazine, and the best selling book Wildlife Painting: Step by Step by Patrick Seslar.

I also annually participate in major wildlife art shows such as the Southeastern Wildlife Expo in Charleston, South Carolina, Plantation Wildlife Festival in Georgia, Southern Wildlife Festival in Alabama, as well as many regional outdoor arts and crafts festivals. As a child growing up in Charleston, SC, I was fortunate to spend a lot of time outdoors. This is reflected in my art then and now.

It is my desire to glorify Jesus Christ, the creator, through my art and through my business.

Solar System Climate is Changing

It isn't just the Earth heating up...it appears our Solar System in general is seeing a warming trend. If there is evidence to support that climate change is occurring to planets that surround us, are we then being deceived into an agenda to makes us believe that we are the problem? Is this just another money making venture for the power elite to impose a new tax on us all? Is the climate change data we are being force fed by governments just a hoax to serve an agenda?
