THE GOOD NEWS

A Horse Named SHAGRA and His Owner, Phyllis

There cannot be a more amazing relationship between woman and horse and the healing of mind, body and soul that takes place than in the story of Shagra and Phyllis Olson. It is in the extraordinary that you see a divine hand and a destiny that can only be explained as miraculous. From winning $10,000 on America's Funniest Videos (Shagra sang Old MacDonald's Farm), to appearances on Animal Miracles and other national television programs, their life and love inspired millions!

Phyllis gives us her amazing story with her soul mate Shagra on CBS ON THE ROAD AGAIN. Both Phyllis and Shagra now rest in the loving hands of the Creator.

IN THE NEWS

The Eleventh Hour Rescue

What is wrong with people? Just read this story and have to wonder what poor excuse for a human being ties a dog to the railroad tracks? the dog luckily is okay but if he wasn't found it could have been a horrific way to die.

Here is her story....

www.ehrdogs.org

Today we received a heartbreaking call from a good samaritan, who reported that there was a dog tied to the railroad tracks behind her house. Animal Control Officer Johnson responded to the location and was stunned to find that there was indeed a sweet female Pit Bull tied in the hot sun on the railroad tracks. The dog, who we are now calling Georgia, is currently at Antioch Animal Services. She is safe and out of harms way. She has been fed and hydrated and will be having a follow up appointment with the veterinarian tomorrow. This case is currently under investigation. We ask that anyone who has any information about this dog and how she got on the railroad tracks to call us at (925) 779-6989. Georgia will be staying at the Antioch Animal Shelter until she is healthy enough to be put up for adoption. Although we will not be able to go into any further details of this open investigation, we will continue to give you updates and current photos of Georgia as she makes her journey into our Adoption Center and into a Forever Home.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

THE ART OF LIFE

ROSE GANUCHEAU-Artist of Orchids

roseg4art.com

Rose has a degree in biology and a passion for flowers. She and her husband, Courtney Hackney, began accumulating orchids in 1980. Over the years, their collection grew, and so did her infatuation with orchids. Both the thrill of watching a new seedling bloom for the first time, and her complete inability to grow any plant, led her to her desire to capture the beauty of orchids on paper.

Choosing watercolor to start her painting journey some 20 years ago was a happy accident. Despite being the hardest media to master, watercolor allows an artist to apply multiple layers of different pigments in much the same way that nature lays down layers of pigments in plants and flowers. This unique characteristic allows an artist to capture the endless variations of color and markings that exist in the plant kingdom.

Rose is a member of the American Orchid Society, The Jacksonville Orchid Society, The St. Augustine Orchid Society and The First Coast Plein Air Painters. She exhibits her work in juried art shows and at American Orchid Society shows and has participated in several group and solo shows. Courtney and Rose exhibit their orchid collection at AOS shows and judging centers under their combined last names; "Hackneau" ('Hack-No').

STEWARD ALERTS

Courageous Priest

Hello John Quinn & Jeff Gares here.

Let us tell you a little bit about Courageous Priest. You see, Courageous Priest is a real apostolate prayerfully approved and guided by our Spiritual Director, Fr. William Korte. When Courageous Priest started, during the year of the Priest, we only envisioned what you see now. Over time, God has revealed to us, in the most natural way, that Courageous Priest is to consist of three components.

  1. The Seed - This consists of the website, where we post articles about clergy who boldly proclaim the teachings of Holy Mother Church.
  2. The Watering and Growth - This will consist of the establishment of a prayer apostolate for priests and their sanctification.
  3. The Fruit - This part of the apostolate will focus on overcoming the myths which have been improperly ingrained in the hearts and minds of your average Sunday Catholics.

Please pray for this apostolate, we desperately need your spiritual support. As you can see, God has much work to do and he has very little to work with.

Also, this is a Catholic Community, please we want your feedback and thoughts. So, don't forget to leave a comment on the posted articles and let the community know your thoughts. You know in order to have a vibrant community that participation is crucial.

One last favor, would you be so kind to prayerfully email the articles to your friends or better yet post the articles on Facebook or Twitter. It makes a HUGE difference.

  • All through our Blessed Mother Mary's Immaculate Heart
  • Under the patronage of St. John Marie Vianney and St. Padre Pio

May God, who is rich in mercy, bless you!
