THE GOOD NEWS
The Defenders of Wildlife
www.defendersblog.org
Founded in 1947, Defenders of Wildlife is a national leader in science-based, results-oriented wildlife conservation. They stand out in their commitment to saving imperiled wildlife and championing the Endangered Species Act, the landmark law that protects them.
The Gray Wolf has been "delisted" from the Endangered Species List, stripped of any federal protection by the Obama administration and is facing a serious population decline due to hunting and trapping. There are only 5,500 of these animals left in the wild where once there was over 250,000. Idaho, Montana and Wyoming are moving to aggressively eradicate these magnificent animals.
Please make your voice heard in Washington and Congress to save our American wolves.

IN THE NEWS
TRUE WOLF-The Documentary Movie
World Premiering at the 2012 Seattle
International Film Festival.
Opening in theaters across the nation
beginning June 22nd.
www.truewolfmovie.com
True Wolf is the story of a wolf called Koani. Koani, with the help of her human companions, became an ambassador for her species, traveling the country to help raise awareness about wolves. True Wolf is about Koani's life and journey; it is the tale of a wolf and the way she changed lives, most of all those of Pat Tucker and Bruce Weide. Koani and her humans, Pat and Bruce, presented 1,400 programs about wolves to 200,000 people.
The film explores Bruce and Pat's relationship with Koani. Born in captivity, Koani could only be a captive wolf. She could never roam wild nor could she be allowed to run free. For Bruce and Pat, despite all their efforts to provide for Koani's needs, they would have to face the painful truth that they could not provide for her greatest need - to be free. As she would prove time and time again, she was a wolf - and wolves belong in the wild.
True Wolf weaves the story of Bruce and Pat's life with Koani into the larger issue of humanity's relationship with the wolf and wildness. Through 16 years of archival footage, supplemented by provocative interviews, stylized re-creations and stunning wolf footage, this contemporary film explores the highly polarized and contentious period before, during, and after our nation made the historic decision to return wolves to the homelands from which they'd been exterminated in the Northern Rockies.

STEWARD ALERTS
"My Brother, The Pope"
MY BROTHER, THE POPE: The memoirs of Pope Benedict XVI's brother, Msgr. Georg Ratzinger, as told to co-author Michael Hesemann. It wasn't always the case that Msgr. Georg Ratzinger lived in the shadow of his younger brother, Joseph. Georg was an accomplished musician, who for over 30 years directed the Regensburger Domspatzchor, the world-famous boys choir of the Regensburg cathedral. Brother Joseph was a brilliant young professor, but mostly known in German academic circles. Monsignor Georg Ratzinger, writes about the close friendship that has united these two brothers for more than 80 years. Those interested in knowing more about the early life of Benedict XVI will not be disappointed. Georg's reminiscences are detailed, intimate, and warm. And while they begin with the earliest years of the Ratzinger family, they continue right up to the present day. It's a beautiful portrait of Catholic family life and, in the most literal sense, of enduring fraternal charity. Georg has a talent for telling a story, and the co-author fills in some of the larger historical background. The many photographs, both in black and white and in color, round out a thoroughly enjoyable and inspirational book. Georg Ratzinger (born 1924) is a Catholic priest and musician. From 1964 to 1994, he was the conductor of the Regensburger Domspatzen, the world-famous cathedral choir of Regensburg, Germany. He is the elder brother of Pope Benedict XVI.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
Mission: Wolf
Mission: Wolf is a peaceful sanctuary for captive wolves and wolf-dog crosses. At present, we care for 38 wolves and wolf-dog crosses. All of the animals living at Mission: Wolf share a common trait - they were all born in a cage. Right now in the US, there are about a quarter of a million wolves in captivity and fewer than 10,000 wolves in the wild. Most of the captive wolves born each year do not survive to see their first birthday, having been destroyed or neglected.
Mission: Wolf connects people with nature using hands-on experiential education. Through volunteer internships and national traveling education programs, we inspire individuals to become stewards of the earth. While providing a home for rescued wolves and horses, we create opportunities for growth through community service and personal interactions with animals. We value education, sustainability, and improving relationships between people, animals, and the world around them.
