FROM THE HOLY FATHER THIS WEEK

BUD'S BARKS!

My favorite dog joke:
Muldoon lived alone in the Irish countryside with only a pet dog for company. One day the dog died, and Muldoon went to the parish priest and asked, "Father, my dog is dead. Could ya' be sayin' a mass for the poor creature?" Father Patrick replied, "I'm afraid not; we cannot have services for an animal in the church. But there are some Baptists down the lane. Maybe they'll do something for the creature." Muldoon said, "I'll go right away Father. Do ya' think $5,000 is enough to donate to them for the service?" Father Patrick exclaimed, "Sweet Mary! Why didn't ya tell me the dog was Catholic?"

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"We are perhaps being called in a new way to contemplate the wonders of God's creation, be it in nature or in the marvelous ingenuity of the human mind, and to praise God with heart and tongue for these gifts."
~ Sister Marjorie Keenan, RSHM ~

THE ART OF LIFE

SIMON DEWEY

www.altusfineart.com

Simon Dewey is a well beloved artist whose paintings center around the life of the Savior Jesus Christ. Many of Simon's paintings illustrate the stories of the New Testament and Christ's Ministry.

Simon Dewey was born in London, England. His father was an amateur artist who instilled in Simon a love for art. Simon studied for a while at a London art college, but later decided to work by himself to develop his talents. He soon had established a reputation as an excellent illustrator in London publishing circles.

Simon came to find that his true love was in the painting of images of events found in the scriptures. These images received significant approval, and this encouraged Simon to enter the world of fine art. As Simon's talents have grown over the years, he has developed a truly special ability to portray the Savior Jesus Christ. His works bring us close to the Savior as they radiate love and compassion to all who view them.

Simon currently lives in Cardston, Alberta with his wife and five children.

GOD'S GREEN EARTH

There Once Was An Island

Shot over four years on the Takuu Atoll off the coast of Papua New Guinea, There Once Was an Island examines the ever-changing and very personal debate vexing clans indigenous to the flood-stricken and fast-eroding island chain. With negligible provisions arriving from the mainland and no government strategy for relocation, the Takuu community looks to ocean scientists to assess the viability of remaining on their homeland. The stories of three islanders poignantly highlight the direct impact of climate change in the South Pacific.

Centesimus Annus

Centesimus Annus (which is Latin for "hundredth year") was an encyclical written by Pope John Paul II in 1991, on the hundredth anniversary of Rerum Novarum. It is part of a larger body of writings known as Catholic social teaching, that trace their origin to Rerum Novarum, which was issued by Pope Leo XIII in 1891, and ultimately the New Testament.
