FYI

Soils can take thousands of years to form, but land practices often degrade soils so that they erode or are blown away. By the 1970s, almost one-third of the topsoil in the U.S. had already been lost to erosion.

FROM THE HOLY FATHER THIS WEEK

SAINT OF THE DAY

BUD'S BARKS!

There are days that I own the world! If I find an unattended cat toy...it's mine. If I can pull the story book out of the baby's hand...it's mine! If the other dog has the squeaky toy that I played with yesterday...it's still mine. If any of the above are broken...they belong to Susi.

THANKS TO YOU...

THE GOOD NEWS

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy

www.appalachiantrail.org

One of the most beautiful hiking trails in America is located in the Eastern United States, winding through the beautiful Appalachian mountains. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy celebrates 86 years of caring and conservation for this amazing natural treasure!

Their mission statement: The Appalachian Trail Conservancy's mission is to preserve and manage the Appalachian Trail - ensuring that its vast natural beauty and priceless cultural heritage can be shared and enjoyed today, tomorrow, and for centuries to come.

Their vision: The Appalachian Trail Conservancy's vision is to connect the human spirit with nature - preserving the delicate majesty of the Trail as a haven for all to enjoy.

We are committed to nurture and protect this sacred space through education and inspiration. We strive to create an ever-expanding community of doers and dreamers, and work to ensure that tomorrow's generations will experience the same mesmerizing beauty we behold today.

The Appalachian National Scenic Trail holds perhaps the greatest biodiversity pf any unit of the National Parks. Can you imagine how losing such beauty would be unthinkable?!

The trail stretches an enormous 2,180 miles running from Georgia to Maine. There is the 2000 Miler Club for people who have undertaken the entire trail in one trip.  The STATISTICS are amazing.

Why not do something really special this summer and take the family for a trip of a lifetime. Hike the trail and don't forget to support the Conservancy to keep this treasure in our families for generations!

ARTFULLY SPEAKING

The Courage to Move Forward

~by Rick Cannizzaro

Rick loves marine life! His love of sea turtles is well known in his circle of art. He uses this little creature to pose an analogous question that you most assuredly can answer.

(NOTE: Rick painted this picture this past week and created his message before he was to learn that his son's home burned in a terrible fire. The family is safe, but mourn the loss of

their beloved cat)
