The Good News
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI)
www.whoi.edu
The North Atlantic Right Whale has seen a dramatic decline in its numbers over the past decades. It is a species whose life has been followed and chronicled by one of the world's most prestigious marine scientific community. The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, established in 1930 is the world's largest private, non-profit ocean research, engineering and educational organization. Beyond their involvement with the North Atlantic Right Whales, the institution is involved in five main areas of ocean and marine study: ocean life, coastal ocean, ocean and climate change, deep ocean exploration and a marine policy center.
The WHOI has gone to considerable lengths in research and education on the North Atlantic Right Whale. They have a major right whale initiative underway through their Ocean Life Institute and are working with a number of research organizations and institutions on ways to reduce right whale mortality.
This site is a MUST for all who love the sea and its creatures. Bookmark their site and support their tremendous efforts to preserve and protect this part of creation!

There are some types of seafood that we may eat that are more environmentally friendly than others. Every time we shop for seafood we should ask where and how our seafood was caught or farmed. Commercial fishing has it's darker side and seafood vendors need to know that we as customers, care about where our seafood come from and how it affects the surrounding environment. The New England Aquarium has put out its 2011 Ocean Friendly Seafood Species List that supports sustainability for the continued future. READ MORE... ______________________________________

StargazingCetus the Whale
Cetus the Whale is a long constellation that rises in the east-southeast on fall evenings. As one of the largest constellations, it can be found lying below Pisces the Fish in the sky and it contains a wonderful star called MIRA. MIRA is called the "Wonderful Star." Mira grows brighter, then fainter, then brighter again in regular, predictable cycles of approximately 332 days. Cetus, known by the ancient Greeks as the whale that was about to attack Andromeda when Perseus destroyed it, Cetus was later thought to represent the whale that consumed Jonah. ______________________________________Share a Link
