The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals International has fostered a program that is being embraced by millions. It is called Operation Baghdad Pups. Our men overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan are befriended by dogs and cats that live in the violence of war, and who want nothing more than kindness and a meal. Many times the bonds between soldier and animal cross the lines of charity and enter into the dimension of love, a love shared in the direst of circumstances making it all the more powerful. So much so, that the soldier doesn't want to leave his "buddy" behind.
The SPCAI is contacted and the complex logistics of paperwork, veterinarian assistance and transportation to the United States is coordinated. The incredible reunion of soldier and beloved pet has been heralded on news stations across the country. These stories stand as an amazing tribute to the success of Operation Baghdad Pups and humankinds ability to circumvent obstacles on a journey to love.
