Alley Cat Allies

Have you ever seen a cat or cats about your home or workplace that you knew were either stray or feral? Were you one of those people who felt sorry for the creature and left some food outside for them to eat? Or were you one of those people who basically dealt with the cat's presence as an opportunity to intimidate it into immediate exit action by a "scram" or physical threat?
That is the black and white on the issue of these cats. They are either tolerated or they are not. There is no in-between.
This is where the United States only national advocacy organization for stray and feral cats, ALLEY CAT ALLIES found its mission. It was founded in 1990 and has led the progressive movement for the protection of stray and feral cats for over twenty years, educating and informing the public about humane treatment of and co-existence with these animals. They realized that well-meaning citizens who relocated cats to local pounds or shelters were not aware that over 70% of all cats and closer to 100% of all feral cats are killed. ALLEY CAT ALLIES pioneered and advocates the TRAP-NEUTER/SPAY-RETURN process that helps insure a continued life for feral cats, which are very content to live their lives in their outdoor environment.
We here at CSC have experienced firsthand the fruits of following their teachings and in recent years have helped to socialize twelve feral and stray cats and continue to help another six. Spaying and neutering of the cats is an important part of our success in keeping our cat colony limited and cared for.
The Mission Statement for ALLEY CAT ALLIES says: " To transform and develop communities to protect and improve the lives of cats."
It is a huge task that they are making sure progress on every day and we invite you to visit their website to learn so much more about the "beauty" of caring for some of the Creator's most forgotten creatures.

Stargazing
"Feline Stargaze"

This week's featured "feline" star gaze is the Constellation of Leo the Lion. It is impressive and easy to see in the northern hemisphere in the spring of the year. We won't see it now as it has moved into the southern hemisphere. Its brightest star is Regulus which is 3X the size of our own Sun and which lies just to the south of the pointer stars in the Big Dipper.
