This week at CSC we are focused on the
folks who make a difference in the lives of horses, ponies and donkeys.
Two organizations with like names, one in the US and the other in Canada
(and not related) were brought to our attention. They are both
tremendous centers that have operated for many years and offer their
unique settings and services in their vocation of saving equines and
connecting people to these noble animals.
HEAVEN CAN WAIT EQUINE RESCUE AND REHABILITATION (San
Miguel, CA)
Heaven Can Wait is committed to providing
abused, neglected and unwanted equines a safe haven where they do not
starve, where they will always receive quality care and treatment,
someplace where they are safe from abuse, suffering and protected from
ever ending up at auction. Co-founder Susan Schwartz a lifelong horse
lover and owner says, "Each rescue, whether already in Heaven, still
with us, or future ones to arrive at Heaven Can Wait will always carry a
big piece of my heart and soul."

Channel 6 highlights the tremendous work being done there.
Claire Malcolm is the founder of Heaven Can Wait Equine Rescue in Cameron Ontario, Canada and which to date has
found loving homes for 800+ horses, ponies and donkeys. She is a true
Steward of Creation who offers a loving sanctuary to equines who would
otherwise be discarded or sent to slaughter. The average care for a
horse costs from $100-$150 and the facility could certainly use a few
sponsors. Your participation as a sponsor allows you to pick the horse
or pony you want to sponsor.
Father Ron's Column
Summer Prayer
This week, Father Ron walks us through a
"test of prayer" to determine if it really is a prayer with and from
God.
Catholic Stewards of Creation is
initiating a new column on increasing the awareness for a stronger
approach to wellness and nutrition in our lives. Take a walk with Susi
from the 1950's to the shocking present day data of nutritionally
depleted soils in the world today.
Horses have always been a part of my
life. From the childhood days of leisurely riding through Florida orange
groves to sharing the love of horse ownership with my family, I can
honestly say there is no more nobler animal, more complete authenticity
that God loves perfection than in the conformation of a horse.
SPEAKING OF FAITH with Krista
Tippett..."Asteroids, stars and the love of God." Two Jesuit priests from
the Vatican Observatory who have had the honor of having asteroids
named after them are interviewed on the show.
The oldest horse that ever lived was "Old
Billy" a barge horse of Lancashire England, who lived to be 62 years of
age and died in 1822. The oldest pony that ever lived was "Sugar Puff"
of West Sussex UK, who lived to be 56 years old and died in 2007.
My new best friend has just moved into the neighborhood. Susi tells me
his is an English Bulldog whose name is UGA, (his owner a University of
Georgia fan)...he's a really fun guy with a face like a toad that has been
sat on.
