Welcome
to Holy Week
Holy Week is the week which
precedes the great festival of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ
on Easter Sunday, and which consequently is used to commemorate the
Passion of Christ, and the events which immediately led up to it.
Sunday, March 28: Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion -
This is the sixth and last Sunday of Lent, and begins Holy Week. The palm
is the Christian symbol for victory and is handed out during
the Masses to the faithful, recalling Jesus' triumphant ride on the back
of a donkey into Jerusalem. The reading of The Passion of Christ is
solemnly conducted.
The Easter Triduum
Thursday, April 1: Holy Thursday -The feast of
Maundy (or Holy) Thursday solemnly commemorates the institution of the
Eucharist and is the oldest of the observances peculiar to Holy Week.
The only Mass celebrated in parish churches is the Evening Mass of the
Lord's Supper.
Friday, April 2: Good Friday - The observance of the
Crucifixion of Jesus. Catholics are called to Fast.
Saturday, April 3: Holy Saturday - The Easter Vigil.
The Church keeps vigil at the tomb of the Lord, reflecting on His
saving death and looking forward to His life-giving resurrection. In the
evening, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults takes place as
adult converts are received into full communion with the Catholic
Church. Catechumens are baptized, confirmed and receive their First Holy
Communion.
May the Holy Spirit take your
heart and spirit into a deeper contemplation of the most powerful
moments ever in the
history of humankind!

Father Ron's ColumnMarch Madness
 I arrived at 1:30 am this morning...home. I couldn't sleep so I stayed
up for another hour watching the wrap up of the first day of the NCAA
men's basketball tournament. This is after leaving my home at 7 am the
previous morning. I worked as a volunteer for the Navy League at a
concession stand, number 304, at the Veteran's Memorial Coliseum for the
March Madness first round...
I offered 18 hours of volunteering dedicated to helping this city to
celebrate the Navy and Merchant Marine for Fleet Week in October. I had
no idea what I was getting into. It was more wonderful and awesome than I
imagined if I peel away the pain in my feet and the hunger. READ MORE...

Susi's CommentarySense of the Sacred
This week, as Christians, we enter int o the most sacred time of all
that we believe, the Passion, Death and Resurrection of the one we
believe to be the Savior of the world, Our Lord Jesus Christ. These next
days are truly a "sacred" time. A time to reflect on a love so great,
that we are incapable of grasping its very nature. It is a time to look
deeply into the face and wounds of the God-Man who likened Himself to us
in every way but sin and chose to redeem us. It is a time for humility,
repentance and renewal. In the rush-rush, push-push of today's world, a sense of the sacred
can be blocked out by the droning of talking heads, our busy lives and
financial obligations. Yet, we seek it without knowing even in the midst
of all the distractions.

How Do Planets Form? The Hubble
Telescope Sheds New Light on the Subject

For centuries, astronomers and philosophers wondered how our solar
system and its planets came to be. As telescopes advanced and space
probes were sent out to explore, we learned more and more about our
solar system, which gave us clues to how it might have taken shape.

"The issue is now clear, it is between

~G.K. Chesterton

| BUD'S BARKS!
We animals are given to praise God by our
very being. We exist as creatures of His love and live in subjugation
to humankind. Yet, we too are bound for heavenly unity.
Because creation itself also will be
delivered from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory
of the sons of God. For we know that all creation groans and travails in
pain until now.
(Romans 8:21-22)

He wore a size 10 ¾ sandal. A cast of
