Greetings!

InesAs part of our salute to "Adopt A Shelter Dog Month," this week's Celebrity Guest Columnist is Ines de Pablo, president, owner & founder of the first dedicated pet emergency management company in the World. Wag'N Enterprises, located in Fairfax County, Virginia, offers pet parents and first responders the necessary gear, supplies and training to effectively mitigate, prepare and respond to emergencies that impact pet health and safety.

She is of Swiss origin, having received her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and received her Masters Degree in Risk, Crisis & Emergency Management from George Washington University in 2004. Ines is a devoted "James Lee Whitt" pro mitigation advocate. She just applies the concept to pets. With an Emergency Medical Technician background Ines became a certified pet instructor for Pet Tech, Inc. She is also working on her private and commercial helicopter license to one day help Animal groups around the country.

After Hurricane Katrina, The Humane Society of United States pushed for the implementation of the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS)Act of 2006. The Act requires states to include stipulations requiring emergency preparedness authorities to consider animals in their disaster plans to qualify for FEMA grants. Ines argues that the Act cannot be considered the sole protection/safety blanket during emergencies. The best way to keep them safe is for pet parents to act as their pet's first responders by learning how they can prevent, prepare and respond to pet emergencies to lessen the trauma of recovery. Ines is a pro-active leader in her field. Reaction is less effective than action. It was the Katrina disaster that led Ines to her mission in establishing the world's first dedicated pet emergency management company. Her life and her energy are equally full of commitment and devotion to pets and bringing awareness to pet owners the need for care and safety, no matter the situation.

Ines says, "Pet Emergency Management is real and needs to be shared and understood. Owners need to be informed about their options, how they can prepare, what they need to prepare for, and understand that there are many ways to mitigate, prepare for and respond to an emergency. Our goal is to make sure that the pets you love so dearly are cared for appropriately to prevent a dire situation from becoming a full blown emergency. To get that message we have got to get pet parents Wag'N about pet safety! "

We are extremely proud to have Ines de Pablo share her tips for Dog and Cat Emergency Preparedness.  www.wagn4u.com
