This Time Around...

Hedge Funds ARE Hedging
Hedge funds continue to get bad press.  In the 2+ year period from March 2009 through May 2011, they overall trailed the rebounding major equity indices.  And recent articles in The Financial Times and Reuters give the impression that hedge funds are still failing to achieve their primary purpose:  to protect the portfolio when markets decline.  But are they?

Despite the headline-grabbing collapse of a few high-profile hedge funds, these funds are not representative of the entire universe.  Nor do they reflect either our approach or our experience here at Federal Street

From May 1- Sept 30, 2011, the average hedge fund suffered only

60% of the overall market's decline.

Our experience has been even better than that.
