Interest rates and overall inflation are at some of the lowest levels in history.  A simple look at history would indicate that when interest rates declined to historically low levels, they were generally followed by periods of rate increases, oftentimes negatively impacting bond portfolios. 

 

The probable course and potential impact of today's interest and inflation rates is the subject of intense ongoing debate, not only at Federal Street but around the globe.
