NALGEP Releases Primer on Development of Renewable Energy on Brownfields

The National Association of Local Government Environmental Professionals (NALGEP)  released a report entitled "Cultivating Green Energy on Brownfields: A Nuts and Bolts Primer for Local Governments."  The primer offers local governments a starting point for considering whether (and what) renewable energy facilities may be appropriate for local brownfield sites.  It includes an overview of renewable energy options, tools for navigating the economic issues that determine project feasibility, information on relevant permitting, zoning, liability and other regulatory issues, and best ways  to promote the development of renewable energy on brownfield sites.  Click here to access the report.

Brookings Report Shows that Most State Clean Energy Funds Located in NEMW Region

Last week, the Brookings Institute released a report entitled "Leveraging State Clean Energy Funds for Economic Development."  The report focuses on state clean energy funds (CEFs) as effective tools that states can use to accelerate the development of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.  CEFs exist in over 20 states, the majority of which (16) are located in the Northeast-Midwest region.  CEFs generate about $500 million per year in dedicated support from utility surcharges and other sources, making them significant public investors in thousands of clean energy projects.  NEMW states with CEFs are:  MN, WI, MI, IL, OH, NY, VT, NH, ME, MA, RI, CT, NJ, PA, DE, and MD.
