NEMWI Hosts Film-Screening and Panel Discussion on Revitalizing Small Older Industrial Cities: October 13

NEMWI, with support from the Rockefeller Foundation and the State of Vermont's Department of Tourism and Marketing, is hosting a Capitol Hill-based screening of  "The Blood in This Town," a new documentary that chronicles Rutland, VT's drive to revitalize.  The film uses Rutland's Gift-of-Life Marathon blood drive to explore how an ailing rust-belt town can rebuild from the grassroots up.  The event will also include a reception featuring VT products and a panel discussion on post-industrial revitalization of small cities and towns.  Save the date for a unique event on October 13, 2011 from 6-9pm in the Capitol Visitor Center, Washington, D.C.

Transportation (TIGER) Grants and Rural America Webinar This Week

The second of a two-part webinar series on the U.S. Department of Transportation's (USDOT) Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grants (TIGER Grants and Rural America) will take place on Wednesday, August 31 at 2:00pm EDT.  The webinar is an important opportunity for states, local governments, transit agencies, and their partners in the Northeast-Midwest region to gain assistance on the application process for TIGER grants.  Moderator Roger Millar of Smart Growth America's Leadership Institute will moderate a panel of four speakers: grant writers who have been successful in getting TIGER funds in the past, an expert in benefit-cost analysis from USDOT, and a leader in the transportation field who has years of experience getting projects funded and completed.
