Rep. Fattah to Moderate Briefing on Financing Green Businesses
On April 20th from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in 1310 Longworth House Office Building, the Congressional Urban Caucus, under the leadership of Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA), and the Northeast Midwest Congressional Coalition will hold a joint briefing that will focus on ways federal programs can be used to help finance green business opportunities in dense urban areas. With the help of New Market Tax Credits and other Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) fund programs, innovative, green investments can create jobs and revitalize distressed communities. Panelist invited to participate include: -
Nicole Sherwood, Executive Director with the Jonathan Rose Companies will discuss how her organization is advancing green job opportunities through the use of the CDFI's New Markets Tax Credits program. The Rose companies have gained accolades for their Via Verde development project in the Bronx. Via Verde is one of the greenest low-income housing developments in the county.
- Dan Nissenbaum, COO of the Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group,will discuss the company's 10,000 Small Businesses program. Through this initiative Goldman Sachs will invest 300 million dollars in CDFIs to help unlock the growth and job-creation potential of small businesses across the nation.
- Jeremy Nowack, President and CEO of the Reinvestment Fund (TRF) will discuss how his company uses New Markets Tax Credits and CDFI loans to expand access to fresh foods and expand energy efficiency programs in underserved urban areas.

Leveraging Green in a Recession Congressional Briefing
The Alliance for Community Trees, in coordination with Congressman Earl Blumenauer is hosting a congressional briefing on Leveraging Green in a Recession on April 20, 2010 from 3:00 to 4:30pm in 304 Cannon House office building. At the briefing speakers will discuss how trees and green infrastructure are being used to create jobs, mitigate flooding, rescue housing, and improve the economic health of American cities, towns, and villages. In today's down market, innovative, "green" projects are offering cross-bottom-line solutions in urban and suburban areas.
