St. Patrick's Day Green Infrastructure Briefing The Northeast-Midwest Institute, in coordination with the Northeast-Midwest Congressional Coalition is sponsoring a briefing on two green infrastructure bills, HR 2222, The Green Communities Act and HR 4202, The Green Infrastructure for Clean Water Act. In recognition of the tremendous economic benefits of community greening projects, HR 2222, introduced by Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-PA) would create a technical assistance and grants program through the Economic Development Administration. Because of declining water resources, particularly in urban areas, Rep. Donna Edwards (D-MD) has sponsored HR 4202, legislation that would develop centers of excellence for green infrastructure. The centers would conduct research and develop best practices in utilizing "green" to manage water quality.
The briefing will take place on March 17 from 2 to 3:30 in Rayburn 2253. St. Patty's Day cookies and refreshments will be provided.

House Great Lakes Task Force Appropriations Letter
The co-chairs of the House Great Lakes Task Force are circulating three appropriations letters in support of Great Lakes programs. The letters will be sent o the Commerce, Justice Science Appropriations Subcommittee; the Interior and Environment Subcommittee; and the State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee. National Legislative Forum on Parks and Recreation
On March 16-19, 2010 the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is organizing the annual National Legislative Forum on Parks and Recreation. The event provides a unique opportunity to inform our nation's leaders about the essential services provided by park and recreation agencies. NRPA uses the forum to educate national leaders about the importance of parks and recreation in communities. The group encourages community advocates, members of local park authorities, park commissions and city councils to attend.
