S. active duty troops.  The USO has set up a dedicated webpage for credit card donations.

Program Details

-   The USO will customize the calling cards with the Florida Realtors® logo, so every soldier knows who paid for the call.

-  The USO receives and tracks all donations.  Checks sent to Florida Realtors will be sent to the USO.

-  Everyone is encouraged to donate - not just Realtors®

Cape Harbour once again brought out the "Red, White and Blue" to bring the community together for our annual Fourth of July celebration, the "Great American Picnic".  The drizzly skies of the morning did not deter staff and friends from preparation and, right on queue, the weather turned bright.  Residents, friends, neighbors, visitors and pets came out to see the sights and hear the sounds that remind us our good fortune to be Americans and to pay homage to our Military. 

The mood of the day was set by Developer Will Stout who introduced the Presentation of Colors by the Cape Coral Post 8463 Color guard followed by the beautiful voices of Caira Everly and Tony Annunziata singing both popular and patriotic songs.  Emcee, Chris Cammarato, "The Juke Box Hero" filled the background with musical favorites and announced the events as they unfolded. 

For the third year, Kaye Caple of the Adopt-A-Troop Foundation worked tirelessly to collect donations which are used to send "Shoebox" care packages to our troops who are stationed out of the country.  Kaye supports ten units comprised of 30 to 800 soldiers.  In the last two and a half years she has sent over 1500 boxes to troops!  The performances by the young students from Jeff Santella's Martial Arts University as well as the powerful Shepherd dogs from the Lee County Dog Obedience School were well received.  The "Calendar Girls" dance troupe staged a much-appreciated dance and comedy routine.

Each year, pet owners look forward to the Patriotic Pet Contest where patient pets and creative owners take the stage with Lois Thome of Wink news as announcer and judge along with Anita Simmons of Cape Dog Bakery also serving as judge.  Prizes are awarded in several categories and this year, the overall first place winner was a cute cat dressed in patriotic finery sitting in a mini hot-air balloon.  First prize was a gift basket filled with items donated by the Cape Harbour merchants.  Prizes were also awarded to the winners of the Apple Pie Baking Contest hosted by Café Pignoli.  Rachael Dawson won first place for her pie called "CC'S Surprise", Fran Breslin won second place for her Rum Raisin Apple and Liz Hinckley won third place for her "Red, White and Blueberry Apple".  Prizes were gift certificates for dining events at Café Pignoli.  Kids under the age of 12 could enter the Banana Split Eating Contest sponsored by Run Agrounds.  What an excuse to eat all the ice cream you want! 

Cape Harbour's Fourth of July Great American Picnic is all about family fun.  Children (or the young at heart) could get a patriotic tattoo, a fire cracker hairdo with paint and sparkles, take a photo with family and friends at the photo booth or in a mini sports car or create a patriotic bandana along with a thank you card for the troops.  The Promenade shops provided great shopping opportunities for everyone and delicious food could be enjoyed at all of the restaurant venues.  Again this year, a great time was enjoyed by all!
