EVENTS, EVENTS, EVENTS!!!
Once again it's time to lace up your running shoes and test your "Cape-abilities". After the successful Tour de Cape at Cape Harbour in January, we are playing host to 2 more events in April.
On April 1st it's the "Fool's Day 5K" race. Pre-registration will be from 6 pm to 6:45 pm with a start time at 7 pm from The Joint on Cape Harbour's promenade at 5848 Cape Harbor Drive. Participants can pick up their race packet on March 30th between 6 pm and 8 pm at The Joint.
Pre-registration fees are $18 for those under 18 and $20 for adults. For everybody on race day, the fee is $25. There will be t-shirts, water stations along the course, post-race refreshments, awards for male and female finishers and a post-race party with live music. The race is sponsored by The Joint & Rumrunners. To register or for more information call (239) 540-9529 or go online at www.3dracinginc.com or www.Active.com.
The success of the Tour de Cape has set the pace for social gatherings and family oriented recreational sports in a safe and friendly environment with the variety of amenities offered at Cape Harbour. January's two day cycling, running and walking event - organized by the Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department and sponsored by the News-Press, Rumrunners, The Joint and Realmark Development - attracted more than 800 participants. Feedback from participants was very positive, Cape Harbour is set to host the event again next year!
You can switch from running shoes to walking shoes and join the 5-mile charity walk taking place April 10th starting at 9 am. The second annual "Angels Among Us" will step off on a walking route through the picturesque streets of the Cape Harbour community. Proceeds from the walk benefit brain tumor research and the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University.
Registration begins 8:30 am at the Pavilion in Cape Harbour. The $25 per person fee includes a t-shirt and noon luncheon. A silent and live auction starts at 11 am featuring fabulous gifts courtesy of Realmark Development, the merchants at Cape Harbour and many others.
Donations include boat tours, jewelry, a parking spot for your boat in Cape Harbour's beautiful Marina, restaurant gift certificates and more.
Event co-chairperson Maggie Robison is determined to double last year's $12,000 raised by the event. Maggie and husband Buck, along with co-chairs Bob & Cindy Richards and Nancy Langman and her husband Gary Cogley, all of Cape Coral, are among those whose lives have all been touched by brain tumors. Deadline for registration is March 30th. For more information on the walk-a-thon and to register, call Maggie Robison at (239) 549-5640. These are just two of the many more events scheduled this year and being hosted by Cape Harbour.
