Maintenance Tips

During the fall months there are many maintenance needs that need to be completed to prepare for winter and ensure the proper life span of the products used to construct your home.  The following is a list of suggested tips to consider:
  • Clean out gutters and downspouts of debris after leaves have fallen.
  • Trim back trees and shrubs from house walls, roof and AC units, as needed.
  • Clean and service the furnace to ensure proper operation (contact an HVAC professional if needed).
  • Check caulking and weather-stripping on all exterior doors and windows; reapply as needed for an adequate seal.
  • Check structural integrity of chimney (cracks, leakage, effloresence, etc).
  • Clean out basement window wells.
  • Spray for household pests (Ants, Cockroaches, Termites, etc).
  • Check all detectors for working batteries (fire, carbon dioxide, etc).
  • Disconnect and drain garden hoses to prevent hydrants from freezing, store through winter months.
  • Clean / replace furnace air filters.
  • Check / renew caulking around all bathroom and kitchen fixtures as needed.

If any problems are found, while completing the above maintenance tips, be sure to attend to them as soon as possible to avoid further damage.
