We are officially in the month of October and it's a busy month here at the Bay County Chamber of Commerce. We are offering many events including a Healthcare Reform Act Seminar, Non-Profit Sustainability Summit, Grant Writing Workshop, and of course, First Friday and Business After Hours. 

Speaking of First Friday, the General Election is just a month away and the Chamber wants to keep you informed. At First Friday, those running for office will have one minute to deliver their speech (on an actual stump) and convince you why they deserve your vote.  
 
 

Junior Leadership Bay has a brand new class! Please welcome these bright, talented students as they participate in our program. Congratulations to those who were selected for the 2012-2013 class. Details are below on how you can help this program and other young students in Bay County.

JLB Announces the 2012-13 Class

 

The Bay County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 12th Junior Leadership Bay class. JLB is an exciting program for high school juniors, designed to educate local students on the resources and opportunities in Bay County. At the end of each year, one student is selected to receive a scholarship to attend Gulf Coast Community College and Florida State University Panama City Campus.

 

Twenty-two high school juniors who showed potential for becoming future leaders in Bay County were chosen to participate in the program. Junior Leadership Bay is an eight month program designed to prepare, develop and enhance juniors for future roles in community leadership at an early point in life.

Junior Leadership Bay is administered by a steering committee comprised of many Bay County businesses. Junior Leadership Bay Seeking Donations for Silent Auction
The Junior Leadership Bay Steering Committee is seeking donations for a silent auction to be held during the Chamber's Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony on January 25, 2013 at Edgewater Beach & Golf Resort. Participants will receive recognition in the dinner program.

Jim Riley comes to the Bay County Chamber of Commerce with over 40 years of experience working with a wide range of businesses as an accountant, financial manager and business advisor. He is our newest Membership Account Executive.

 

Jim has worked with newly formed private firms in the real estate brokerage, liquor distribution, retail bakery, construction, development and commercial property management industries and for large public international firms in the hospitality, real estate investment, mining and petroleum/petrochemical industries

 

A cum laude graduate of the University of Miami with a BBA in Accounting, he passed all 4 parts of the Uniform Certified Public Accounting examination on the first sitting and holds a CPA certificate in Louisiana.

Quarterly Business Breakfast Seminar
Mark your calendar for the next Quarterly Business Breakfast Seminar!

Dr. Mike Wallace, professor at FSU Panama City, will discuss developing a SWOT Analysis and what you need to know about your SWOT.

 

Since its introduction in the 1960s, the SWOT Analysis has become one of the most recognized methods for assessing an organization's internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as recognizing external opportunities and threats the organization may face. In this session, Dr. Wallace will discuss  

when and how a SWOT Analysis should be done and what it should mean to the success of your business.

MILITARY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

MAC LogoThe Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1946 and is rich in the history of providing good public relations between our military bases and the business community. 

 

The mission of MAC is to develop understanding, support and goodwill between our men and women in uniform and the local business and civic leaders. The committee stages various events and receptions to welcome visiting military officials and guests to the Bay County area.

BUSINESS REFERRAL NETWORK MEETINGS
Four different Business Referral Network (BRN) groups meet bi-monthly for lunch meetings to network and share business leads/referrals with other group members. 

Only one member of each group may belong to a particular business/trade, i.e. only one person in banking, to discourage direct competition.
