Greetings!

Bo Rivard

Police, Fire and EMS risk their lives to save ours everyday. During the week of September 5th - 11th, we will recognize and show our appreciation for our local First Responders and ask that the business community say "Thank You" by placing it on signs, websites and business marquees as well as offer a discount on goods or services to First Responders in uniform or those who show a badge while with their families.

In conjunction the Chamber will hold a First Responder Appreciation Luncheon on September 8th at FSU-Panama City - Holley Center. While this year marks the 10th anniversary of 9/11, our keynote speaker will be Major General (ret) Larry Arnold, 1st Air Force Commanding Officer during 9/11. A "Community Hero Award" presentation will also be given. The event will offer the business community an opportunity to express appreciation for the service that first responders provide. You can read more about this event below, including how to sponsor and attend.

Congratulations to our 2011-2012 Leadership Bay Class! The Leadership Bay Steering Committee selected our new participants from many great applications. You can read more about Leadership Bay and the new class below in this newsletter.

During the month of August, the Chamber surveyed our membership for input on issues affecting their business. Results are being tallied and our Governmental Affairs Committee will develop our 2012 Legislative Agenda from the identified priorities. The Chamber also hosted Rep. Jimmy Patronis for a roundtable discussion with the Board in August to review legislative issues the business community is facing now and on the horizon.

Also, our Military Affairs Committee recognized outgoing leadership from Tyndall and the Navy Base. Brig. Gen. James Browne will be handing over the command of the 325th Fighter Wing on September 9th; Maj. Gen. Garry Dean handed over command of 1st Air Force CONUS NORAD Region on August 31st and Capt. Thomas Brovarone will relinquish command of the Naval Surface Warfare Center on September 2nd. The Military Affairs Committee also hosted a welcome reception for the new commanding officer at Naval Support Activity. CDR. Anthony Anglin took command on June 30th from CDR. Jessica Pfefferkorn.

It is also important to mention that at this time of year the Chamber starts its transition for the New Year. The annual board retreat to determine our 2012 Business Plan will be held in October.

Many events are scheduled for September; you can see the details for those in this e-newsletter as well. We hope to see you there or at one of our many committee meetings! Get involved and help make Bay County a better place to LIVE, WORK and PLAY!
