Don Berwick's key note address at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement 21st Annual National Forum held Dec 6-9 themed "Simplify" had two points that are seamlessly integrated with the mission and vision of Value Health Partners.
Dr. Berwick presented a challenge to health care leaders to adopt an aim and "over the course of the next three years, reduce the total resource consumption of your health care system, no matter where you start, by 10%. Do this without a single instance of harm, rationing of effective care, or the exclusion of needed services of the population you serve."
The closing point in his inspiring talk was the request for expectation and offering of civility,"This is the functional and transactional rule for effective collaborative management of what we hold and trust. . . respect is a precondition."
Quality leaders and specialists had an opportunity to attend this conference, which is the hallmark of national and international demonstration and collaboration of healthcare quality improvement initiatives. Satellite broadcasts of this conference reached 15,000 health care professionals globally. Value Health Partners secured 11 seats for the broadcast for partner quality leaders and specialists to be inspired, challenged and collaborate on the future national quality agenda.
