Healthy Choices
and Your Skin | |
|

|
| Greetings! |
|
Your skin is the largest organ of your body and it's also the one that everyone is looking at! It protects against heat, light, injury and infection. It also stores water, fat, vitamin D and helps regulate your body's temperature. And without the sensory nerve cells in your skin, it would be impossible to feel warmth, cold or any other sensation including the healing touch of others. So isn't it time your skin gets the respect it deserves? This month, let's explore the skin you're in and how lifestyle choices affect not only its appearance, but also it's health. Let us help you achieve the youthful, radiant skin you deserve! Call and book your appointment today!

| How we Age |
| The aging process begins the day we are born...as soon as we are exposed to free radicals present in our air, food, water and produced by our own digestive process. Free radical damage leads to drier, sagging and wrinkled skin. Sun exposure alone creates up to 90 to 95 percent of our skin damage and smoking can have the same effect. Most experts now believe that 70 percent of all health problems stem from lifestyle choices and your skin is an outer reflection of your health. Limiting your exposure to free radicals and increasing your intake of antioxidants by consuming fruits and vegetables rich in color is a simple way to fight this battle. Regular physical exercise, lots of water and plenty of sleep will keep your skin in top functionality and form! And since the skin turns over about every 30 days, a monthly facial is essential. |

| Men's Skin |
A man's skin is about 20 percent thicker than a woman's and therefore a little tougher, enabling it to withstand the shock that it receives during shaving. It also tends to be firmer than a woman's because it is richer in collagen and elastin although it also tends to be more oily due to more active sebaceous glands. Shaving scraps away layers of dead skin and natural oils so moisturizing is a must. During the day, choose a full spectrum sunblock and in the evening, use an organic shaving emulsion, moisturizer and eye cream. An excellent local manufacturer of these products is Issimo's Guy Gear that can be purchased at The Garden Spa'T. Men's skin also needs repair due to this daily heavy exfoliation. Look for products with emu oil which is closest in fatty acid composition to humans' and is being studied extensively by Harvard Medical University for its ability to accelerate repair in the human body. Emu oil can be taken both internally and applied externally. The Garden Spa'T recommends Abovo Organic Emu Oil products which are available in our shop and formulated right here in Eagle Rock! |
