We had emailed you around Father's Day about keeping your plants watered, and concerns remain as long as it stays hot and dry.
 
Japanese beetles are continuing to thrive and cause damage.  
 
We don't want to bore you with "old" news - but feel it's important to let you know these items are still relevant.

We are beginning to see signs of stress in many plants due to the lack of rain central Iowa has been experiencing.  While this is especially true for plants experiencing their first growing season, established plants are also being affected.  Almost all plant material (especially newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials) needs the equivalent of an inch of rain per week in order to flourish.  



BASIC WATERING RULE
Always check the soil moisture around the base of the plant (under the mulch) prior to watering.  If the top 1" of soil feels damp or wet, there is no need to water.
