Emerald Ash BorerImportant Information about Emerald Ash Borer
Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a small, green, invasive, wood-boring beetle that attacks and kills ash trees of any size, age, or stage of health.  First discovered in North America near Detroit, Michigan in 2002, EAB has spread to Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Virginia.  Officials from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, DNR, and ISU Extension are currently conducting extensive scouting around Clayton County near Elkader where EAB was found in the larval stage, to determine if there is an infestation in Iowa.

Officials believe that most of the infestations can be traced to the movement of firewood from infested areas.  Please reduce the threat of spreading EAB by only using firewood purchased from sources local to where it will be burned - Burn It Where You Buy It.

Visit the link below for current information about the status of EAB in Iowa, as well as recommendations for the treatment of ash if an infestation is confirmed within 15 miles.
