During the last four years I've had the honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Madison County as Supervisor, District 3.
COMMITMENT: I pledge to maintain my commitment to low taxes, open government and job creation. We have a great city because our neighborhoods are strong, our business climate is favorable and our taxes are affordable. As your next Alderman at Large, I want to build on these strengths while making Ridgeland an even greater place to live and work through the South East Ridgeland Redevelopment Project and protecting our property values through strong code enforcement and being proactive in fighting crime. And, fighting to keep our quality Ridgeland Schools as STAR schools.
PROUD TO SERVE: I served our Country for 30 years in the Army including serving as a combat helicopter pilot in Vietnam and Panama, and as an Airborne Ranger Aviator with more than 35 parachute jumps. And I've served the Dinsmor Homeowners Association for the last 15 years as a member of the Board of Directors and for the last 8 years as the On-Site Property Manager.
EXPERIENCE: I earned the reputation as a watchdog for taxpayers over the last four years when I helped raise awareness about property taxes in Madison County and provided online resources for taxpayers to stay informed about issues in the community.
As one of the founding members of the Federation of Madison County Homeowner Associations (FMCHA.org), I was a champion of homeowner issues as a member of the Madison County Board of Supervisors:
o notified scores of property owners that they needed to file for homestead exemption on their homes. Some had lived in their homes for over 10 years without filing for the important exemption. And, reminded many about the Over-65 and disability special exemptions.
o led the initiative to obtain State Legislation signed by the Governor allowing Madison County to allow "PUBLIC ACCESS" gates for neighborhoods in unincorporated areas of the County.
o led the fight to reel in wasteful spending on engineering fees; coordinated the first joint meeting of the City of Ridgeland and Madison the City Boards of Aldermen in 25 years!
o led the fight to renew curbside recycling for the County
o helped subdivisions get speed-humps, signage and additional traffic calming measures
o fought the development of an additional, unnecessary municipal solid waste landfill
o in 2009, wrote an article and took the lead on informing property owners about the new FEMA flood maps, allowing effected subdivisions and property owners to take timely action to avoid massive increases in their property insurance costs.
o opposed the additional bureaucracy, and associated cost, of the Madison County Regional Solid Waste Management Authority
o wrote article to educate taxpayers and members of the State Legislature about the Fleecing of Taxpayers: Section 42 Housing The article was given to all members of State House before their discussion of the proposed bill to close the loopholes where they voted 119-2 in favor.
o served as member of Central Mississippi Planning Development District's(CMPDD) Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO); served as member of Board of the Madison County Waste Water Management Authority; served as Chairman, South Central Mississippi Works Board of Commissioners consisting of representatives from 17 counties to plan and conduct workforce training to ensure a comprehensive approach to employment and training needs.
o One of three County Supervisors selected from the entire State to attend to the State Executive Development Institute conducted by the John Stennis Institute of Government at Mississippi State.
I'm a member of the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership, Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce, Madison the City Chamber, the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, Military Officers Association of America, Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association, Army Aviation Association of America, the Army War College Alumni Association, the Madison-Ridgeland American Legion Post, and the Ridgeland VFW. And, I've also done extensive research, writing and speaking about programs affecting the military.
My wife, Linda, and I are members of Highland Colony Baptist Church, Ridgeland where I serve as a Deacon.
I pride myself in being accessible to the public; you can find me on Facebook , on Twitter, and on LinkedIn.
