Everyone needs to read the Attorney Generals comments about the Madison County lawsuit and rushing through the redistricting... See the AG's comments:http://tinyurl.com/697opqr AND http://tinyurl.com/5r33cgq I think AG HOOD is correct about this matter... why put the entire system in gridlock for no reason!

CONCERNS ABOUT REDISTRICTING:
1. Board of Supervisors did not abide by their own guidelines for redistricting.  http://dismithj.posterous.com/madison-county-redistricting-resolution-guide-0
2. Did not select "compact" option
3. Moved 10's of thousands of citizens unnecessarily.
4. Did not make the minimum changes necessary
5. Citizens were disenfranchised since they did not have the opportunity to qualify to run for office in the new district since the qualification deadline had passed.
6. Candidates who had qualified were removed from the districts where they had qualified to run.
7. There has massive confusion since citizens don't know what is going to happen with an election only 60 days off!
8. Incumbent Election Commissioners were put in the same District
9. ELECTION CYCLE started on Jan 1, 2011; unfair to redistrict after opponents are known and after qualification date has already passed.
10. Redistricting OPTION 3 creates "split Supervisor" Precincts where residents from two Supervisor districts will be voting.   Since the Election Commissioners have the same districts as the Supervisors, there will be no clear responsibility chain for these precincts. i.e. which of the Elected Election Commissioners will be responsible for hiring poll workers, taking care of polling place issues, etc. This is a nightmare scenario and has never occurred in Madison County.

  • LANDFILL UPDATE- Status of proposed municipal solid waste landfill in doubt as DEQ tells the developer it will recommend disapproval unless the setback distances are "500' from all adjacent property lines." The submitted plans were for only 250' for the proposed NCL landfill. This makes the use of the proposed site doubtful as a landfill.  This is the 3rd municipal solid waste landfill in Madison County. There are currently only 18 in the entire State.   The Mississippi Commission on Environmental Quality "recommended" a 500' setback from all property lines when they approved the Madison County Solid Waste Management plan.  This approval was affirmed by the Mississippi Supreme Court, April 11, 2011. I predict this setback distance will be a show stopper for the proposed landfill.
