July 1 is a big day in the life of the Boylan Group - it heralds an exciting new era as the sole Australian distributor for the Energy range of road safety products.
Energy products include Triton water-filled plastic barriers, QuadGuard crash cushions, SafeStop truck-mounted attenuators and Dura-Post delineators.
Managing director Peter Boylan said he was delighted Boylan Group had been chosen to support such a prestigious range of products.
"We've enjoyed considerable success with the other exclusive products we market, such as BarrierGuard 800 and Boylan Eagle Eye, and we are confident we can replicate that success with the Energy range," Peter said.
"As always, our focus will be on reliable and efficient service, and I know, in the end, that's what builds customer confidence," he said.
To support this opportunity, Boylan Group is expanding its team. We offer a warm welcome to our new arrivals:
* Paul Elsdon - Business Development Manager, NSW
* Rob Mashford - Business Development Manager, Victoria, SA and Tasmania
* Peter Pavey - Technical Manager
* Mark Tierney - Sales Support, NSW
* Michelle Heffernan - Administration

We'll also be opening a new storage and distribution warehouse in Peter Brock Dr, Eastern Creek, while our third party logistics will be supplied by Diverse Distribution Pty Ltd.

Drive Day thrills .... a Boylan Group guest enjoys a spin with motorsport legend Mark Skaife

Clients and associates of Boylan Group took part in a fundraising event for the Australian Motor Sport Foundation last week.

Staged at Sydney Motorsport Park (formerly Eastern Creek Raceway), the event was supported by many of the big names in Australian motorsport, including Mark Skaife, Colin Bond, Coral Taylor and Neil Bates.

Boylan Group managing director Peter Boylan - driving a Porsche 977 - was one of the many motorsport competitors who thrilled passengers with a spine-tingling hotlap.

Trial of new asphalt made from tyres

Recycling rubber tyres ... a new asphalt trial promises environmental benefits

Recycling rubber tyres into road surfaces has been around for some time but, in the UK, a trial is under way with a new asphalt that promises even better cost and environmental benefits.
Highways Magazine reports that the new asphalt - made partly from recycled tyre waste - has been laid on a short stretch of the A90 dual carriageway between Perth and Dundee.
This stretch of road is one of the busiest in Scotland, carrying around 35,000 vehicles a day.
Over the next few months the material will be closely monitored against a number of key performance criteria, including skid resistance.
Unlike previous unsuccessful attempts in the UK at using rubber in asphalt, which usually involved trying to melt the rubber completely before mixing it with stone and bitumen, the new technology incorporates rubber particles directly into the binding agent.
The product's manufacturers claim it is more economical and environmentally friendly than any comparable product currently available.

Now, where did I park my car?

Those of us who have ever lost a vehicle in a multi-level car park will know the feeling. That 'Oh, no moment' when you realise you have no idea where you parked your car.  Pity motorists in Russia who are regularly faced with a problem of a different sort .... finding their vehicle after a heavy snowfall. The pictures tell their own story ....

             Boylan motorsport round-up

Clockwise from left: Jack Le Brocq returns to his winning ways; Matthew Brabham in action in the US; James Moffat struggles in Darwin.

Boylan Team Safety ambassador Matthew Brabham finished the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda official test days, by topping the time sheets at the 0.686 mile Lucas Oil Raceway.

Driving his Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing #83, Brabham also posted the second quickest time at the Mid Ohio road course earlier in the week.

After attending the annual Mazda Road to Indy clinic at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway the day before, the third generation driver took the challenge of oval track racing in his stride and impressed everyone with not only his speed but also by his consistency.

"It was fantastic to come out on top of the time sheets at the Lucas Oil Raceway. It has definitely given me a lot of confidence leading up to the race in two weeks," Matthew said.

"I am finding ovals a lot of fun to drive on, but I know racing on them will be a whole new learning curve.

"Overall, we got a lot accomplished at the test here and at Mid Ohio, so I feel we are in really good shape at the moment.''

Matthew is currently second in the championship - only two points behind his teammate Spencer Pigot.

James Moffat had a tough weekend in the Northern Territory - a lack of car speed, combined with a team pitlane error, resulted in another frustrating result.
"It's hard to remain positive after a weekend like this, but we have to," James said. "There's a lot of work to do before Townsville if we're going to be competitive," he said.
The Boylan-sponsored driver qualified 25th after a frustrating struggle for speed on the Friday and Saturday.
"What can you say, it was just not our weekend," he said.
"I made a great start [on the Sunday] and made up a lot of places in the opening laps, and we were humming along quite nicely until the pitstop.
"Unfortunately, they [the team] signalled me to leave the pitbox just as [teammate] Dean [Fiore] came in - we hit and it broke the suspension.
"We got back out, but then the engine developed a misfire and we had to park it."

Jack Le Brocq has returned to his winning ways in style by taking out Round 3 of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at the V8 Phillip Island 300.  After taking out his maiden pole position in Formula Ford by 0.7 tenths of a second, the Boylan-sponsored driver went on to take two wins and a third place finish to take out round honours, win the MSCA Best Presented Car for the round and also return to the top of the championship leader board for the 2012 season.
"The team and I are rapt to finish the weekend on such a high and to break the tow at a place like Phillip Island," Jack said.

"To win Race 3 by 4.5 seconds has really shown that we have stepped it up a few gears from Round 2 and we are looking very strong for the rest of the year."

Boylan-sponsored karter Daniel Holihan has made a solid comeback from injury after being sidelined for 10 weeks with broken ribs.
Competing in the CIK Stars of Karting series, Daniel returned to the track in the third round at Ipswich with modest expectations.
"I'm not going out there expecting to win after coming back from a serious injury but I am aiming to finish inside the top 10," he said.
In practice on the Friday, Daniel showed some surprising pace and he eventually went on to secure 11th placing overall.
"[The second race of the final] was a fun race  ... I couldn't believe how well I was driving after having so many weeks off," he said.
Daniel is now preparing for Round 4 of the competition.
"I'm feeling very fit and confident ... it is my home track and I have a lot of local track knowledge."
