Australia's highest-rated perimeter security products were on show at a demonstration day staged by Boylan Group at Sydney's Eastern Creek raceway last week.
Security and roads industry representatives were on hand to view SecureGuard, Boylan Eagle Eye and PAS68-rated street furniture before enjoying lunch and some hot laps in the Boylan race cars.
Boylan managing director Peter Boylan said the event was an ideal opportunity for industry professionals to network and increase their knowledge about the latest products on the Australian scene.

              Driver's very lucky escape

This US driver must have been counting his lucky stars he didn't have a passenger in his car following this spectacular collision with a roadside guard rail. Let's hope he went out and bought a lottery ticket!

The vintage car market is well and truly thriving in the US.
During four days of trading at Monterey in August, auction houses sold 880 historic vehicles for a record sum of nearly $200 million, an increase of $15 million on 2010.
The top price was achieved for a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa 0666TR, which changed hands for a whopping $16.39 million.
Equally noteworthy was the sale of a Duesenberg Model J Murphy Coupe for $10.34 million.

Roads industry recruiting in the UK

recruit

The Australian roads industry is recruiting skilled professionals from the United Kingdom.

The UK-based Highways magazine reports that recruitment specialist Anderson Young has placed 10 people for Australian positions in the past three months and has another 10 positions currently at the selection or interview stage.
A company spokesman said the skills shortage in Australia meant there was a requirement for estimators, quantity surveyors, commercial managers, planners, project managers, contract managers, operations managers, surfacing managers and area managers.

  Sandown 2011

Challenge class champion ... Peter Boylan leads the field in the final race at Sandown.

A JUBILANT Peter Boylan was crowned the 2011 Challenge Class Champion on November 20 after a consistent year of strong results saw him finish ahead of the Bundaberg Lotus of Tim Poulton and Porsche driver Damian Flack.
"This is the first full season of GT racing I've done and it's been a great experience," said Peter.
"Tim and I have raced door to door all year, and had he not had some bad luck, I'm sure the result would have been very different."
Sandown marked the final round of the GT Championship in its current guise, with new European GT3 rules in place for the 2012 season which has attracted amazing amounts of driver and media interest.
The 2012 Australian GT Championship explodes into life at the Clipsal 500 in March with a bumper field of exotic European race cars expected.

Peter Boylan, driving a 1974 Porsche 911, also finished second in the SCc class of this year's Catalina Cup. First place went to Geoff Morgan in a 1975 Porsche Carrera.

James Moffat's rookie season of V8 Supercar racing ended with disappointment - the #18 Dick Johnson Racing Falcon innocently taken out in the first lap of 2011's final race.
A day earlier, the Boylan-sponsored driver had stormed back from various troubles to finish a solid eighth on the streets of Homebush, the final venue of the 2011 V8 Supercar Championship season.
"There's not much to say actually ... a heap of us went to the pits before the start to change to slicks [because the rain had stopped] and then everyone went crazy, they wouldn't even let me in [to the queue] as we exited pitlane," James said.
"Then Coulthard punted me into the wall at the chicane and the car was too badly damaged to continue."
James said it was a disappointing way to end the season.
"However, I can be reasonably pleased with my rookie year in the 'main game'," he said.
"We had some great results, exceeded our expectations by a long way on a few occasions, and had some tough runs as well, particularly toward the end of the year when we suffered from a lack of [car] development.
"Things are shaping up very well for 2012, we've got an exciting new program, and I can't wait ... I wish it was starting next week!"

       Reducing congestion the wireless way

wireless

'Talking' cars ... the key to less congested roads

A major transport project is investigating introducing wireless networking to vehicles as a way of drastically reducing congestion and the environmental impact of traffic.
The UK-based Highways magazine reports that experts at Nottingham Trent University are involved in the $4m European project, which is looking at incorporating wireless technology to vehicles to enable them to automatically gather traffic information and relay it to other commuters.
The research project could lead to every vehicle on the road "talking" to each other about how widespread congestion is in any area.
This would enable motorists to avoid queuing traffic and reduce journey time by identifying potential problems before and during their journey.
