Eye of the storm ... flood images beamed back by Eagle Eye to Queensland authorities.

This video footage of rising flood waters on the Leichhardt Highway offers a graphic insight into some of the challenges Queensland authorities faced during the recent flood emergency.

The images, recorded by Boylan Eagle Eye and beamed back in real time via the Telstra G mobile phone network, were a crucial tool for staff struggling to cope with an ever-changing situation.

While water rampaged through much of the state, Eagle Eye was enabling authorities to remotely monitor regional and remote sites to determine potential risks and the appropriate course of action.

Through our technology, clear digital images - sent every few seconds - were constantly sent through from otherwise often isolated flooded roads and bridges.

Boylan National Operations Manager Wayne Duckworth said the Eagle Eye system was efficient and simple to use.

"At Boylan, we run all the hardware and software at our end," Wayne said.

"It means that all users need is a computer with a web browser, making the whole operation simple to access," he said.

"The web application provides archived vision and data, plus all device settings."

Eagle Eye's weather sensor suite also measures - in real time - barometric pressure, humidity, precipitation, temperature, and wind speed and direction.

Road building in reverse - amazing footage

The recent Queensland floods have had a devastating impact on roads infrastructure.

Just how quickly a section of road can be compromised by flood waters is all too evident in this footage, sent to us by one of our clients. In a matter of minutes, many man hours of labour and hundreds and thousands of dollars in construction costs are swept away.

We're not sure where the footage was filmed - we'd love to hear from anyone who knows.

Gadget Guy Peter Blasina interviews Eagle Eye spokesman Brendan Doyle

Television's Gadget Guy Peter Blasina travelled to the NSW town of Armidale recently to film a segment on Boylan Eagle Eye. (Watch it here

The footage was aired on Febuary 13 on Kochie's Business Builders program on Channel 7.

Peter met with RMTeK Pty Ltd director Brendan Doyle, the technical support behind the Eagle Eye program, to discuss the many applications available for this cutting-edge technology.

"Peter was blown away by the Eagle Eye product range," Brendan said.

"He instantly saw the huge cost and time savings available and just what a difference it would make to government departments and companies alike," he said.

Peter Blasina described the technology as the smart way to handle big distances.

"It is such a good example of how cloud computing can be applied in a practical sense to simplify a plethora of jobs from watching floodwater and causeways, to supervising remote work sites, traffic behaviour, machinery compounds, and a whole range of other situations," Peter said.

 SpeedCheck's new remote access capability

Added flexibility ... SpeedCheck's remote access capability and in-built camera enables      OH&S officers to keep a check on work-site speedsters (number plate has been obscured for privacy reasons).

Boylan's  SpeedCheck speed advisory sign now has remote access capability, with a GPRS modem ensuring data can be easily programmed and downloaded from a PC via the internet.
Boylan National Operations Manager Wayne Duckworth said the addition of remote access to the exisiting bluetooth functionality offered increased flexibility to users.
SpeedCheck  has also has been upgraded to offer an in-built camera that visually records the number plates of vehicles exceeding safe driving limits on work sites.
Wayne said the new capability was an Australian first and a breakthrough for OH&S officers who struggle with the problem of keeping driving speeds within safe levels.
"It's an efficient tool that enables you to monitor workplace safety from your desktop," he said.
SpeedCheck records and flashes the speed a driver is travelling at, then switches to ``Slow  Down'' if the driver has exceeded the speed limit.
Programmable smart technology recognises varying time zone speeds, including school holidays, and logs traffic data for research purposes.

Clockwise from top left: James Moffat flies through to 16th place in the first race in Abu Dhabi; Clubman division star Daniel Holihan; and Matthew Brabham.

James Moffat made a promising debut in the first round of the V8 SuperCar Championship in Abu Dhabi recently despite being forced to pull out of the final race due to mechanical problems.

The Boylan-sponsored driver finished 16th in the first race of the event after qualifying in 28th position. In the second race, he was racing competitively until a broken differential forced him to retire.

"It was great to get a good result during race one and I think we would have been on for a similar result in race two had we not had a mechanical drama," James said.

"I'm working well with the team, which is great so early on," he said.

M

atthew Brabham breezed through his first dry weather test at the Winton circuit recently.

Driving his Team Sonic Mygale SJ10A Formula Ford, Matthew completed a trouble-free day of testing in preparation for the upcoming season.

The main focus of the test was to get comfortable in the car and master the different driving style required by the Mygale compared to the Spectrum that Matthew drove last year. After a short acclimatisation period, Matthew was posting some competitive lap times and was on par with his more experienced team mates.

"It was really good to get some good weather and some serious testing miles under my belt, " a happy Matthew later said.

"It is a lot different to my car from last year - especially in the way you brake and the speed you enter the corner.

"It will take a couple of tests  to really get on top of what I have to learn to get the most out of the car and myself, but I already feel really positive about the year ahead," he said.

The first race for Matthew and his new team is the Victorian State race at Winton on March 12 and 13.

Boylan Group-sponsored karter Daniel Holihan finished 10th in the recent Brian Farley Memorial Clubman Pro event at Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway.

After a fiercely-fought battle, he edged in just one place behind team mate Nathan Tigani. First place went to Macauley Jones, son of V8 team owner Brad Jones.

The event was not without incident for Daniel.

"In one of the heats, I had a massive crash with TopGun Racer Daniel Nolan but managed to keep going with a bent kart," he said.

"It resulted in a pinched nerve but after getting checked over by the paramedics, I was allowed to continue to race."
