Flagship product ... SecureGuard immobilises vehicles attempting to penetrate high security areas

BTS managing director Peter Boylan has announced the launch of a new division within the Boylan group - Boylan Homeland Security.
The new division's flagship product is Boylan SecureGuard, a groundbreaking anti-terrorist protection system for the safeguarding of sensitive national infrastructure sites, such as airports, embassies, government buildings, military bases and munitions storage facilities.
SecureGuard's high-performance advanced perimeter-protection design immobilises vehicles attempting to penetrate high security areas. Fully tested to meet the UK's BS PAS 68:2007 and the US's  DOS K4 and K12 ratings, it is Australia's most sophisticated anti-vehicle perimeter barrier system.
SecureGuard has been installed at a number of sensitive sites overseas where homeland security is a high priority.
SecureGuard has been developed from the BarrierGuard 800 steel road barrier system, the highest-rated barrier in Australia. As such, it offers a high level of anti-terrorism protection while remaining crash-friendly for bona fide road users when positioned close to roads or highways.
Mr Boylan said Boylan SecureGuard signalled a new era in homeland security.
"This barrier can stop dead a 7.5 tonne truck travelling at 80km/h and impacting at a 90 degree angle," he said.
"It will provide crucial protection for sites where terrorist or criminal activity could have a devastating impact on critical infrastructure," Mr Boylan said.

It needn't have ended like this ...
            accidentb

Compelling image ... the ramped end of a concrete barrier contributed to the severity of this accident.

Some recent video footage out of the United States graphically highlights the compelling reasons why cushioned end treatments on road barriers are such a good idea.
The police-vehicle footage shows an out-of-control 1985 Pontiac Firebird on Ohio's Interstate 675. As its 19-year-old driver hits the ramped end of a concrete safety fence, the car is launched high into the air, eventually slamming into a stanchion of a nearby overpass.
Amazingly, the young man survived the accident, although he was left in a serious condition after being ejected from the vehicle as it broke up into many pieces.

BG800 deployed on Qld light rail project

B
oylan Traffic Solutions Queensland has deployed nearly 1.5km of BarrierGuard 800 in the Southport area to protect construction workers on the Gold Coast Rapid Transit project.
The light rail system will link the Southport campus of Griffith University with Broadbeach.
The two-stage project will generate 6300 jobs during construction. The light rail system - which will operate 24/7, with services every 7-8 minutes during peak times - will move up to 10,000 people an hour. It is due to be operational by early 2014.

A warm welcome to three new faces

new faces

NSW staffers ... (clockwise from top left) Lulu Palleiro, Daniel Holihan and Ryan Mason

B
oylan Traffic Solutions is delighted to welcome three new faces to its Sydney branch.

NSW sales executive Ryan Mason has worked in retail and sales for most of his working life and loves the challenge and buzz the job brings.
Raised in Tamworth, Ryan spends as much time as possible on the golf course. Playing off a 17 handicap, he's already teaching his three-year-old son Zane the intricacies of the game. "He's really good for a little fella," says Ryan.

Daniel Holihan is the newest member of the NSW yard maintenance team. Daniel has a long association with BTS managing director Peter Boylan through his stepfather Geoff Morgan.
Peter and Geoff have raced performance cars together for many years and Daniel grew up trackside watching them compete in such prestigious events as the Porsche Carrera Cup. It inspired the 21-year-old to dream of a motor racing career for himself and his subsequent foray into go-karts has been met with considerable success.
He is currently running second in this year's NSKC Clubman Light challenge and is planning to compete in the CIK Stars of Karting international class next year. His major sponsor is Boylan Traffic Solutions.
Daniel says he is inspired by former karters Jamie Whincup and Mark Winterbottom who have made it big in the world of motorsport.
"My dream is to race in NASCAR or touring cars," Daniel says. "I'd also love to team up with Peter and Geoff in a 12-hour endurance race."

New sales support staffer Lulu Palleiro spends her spare time dancing with the 65-strong Candombe Yauguru performance group. Candombe dancing is influenced by the cuerda, a  Afro-Uruguayan rhythmic music that has its origins in the South American slave trade.
Lulu performs with the group at weddings, birthdays and corporate functions. Watch a performance of the group at the Australian Dance Festival.

BTS sponsored Formula Ford driver Matthew Brabham, 16, is catching up on some schoolwork after a hectic few months of competition.
The Cams Rising Star and BTS Team Safety youth ambassador last competed at Townsville in early July.
"Straight out of the box my car felt pretty good and, after the two practice sessions, I was 8th quickest," Matthew said.
Starting the last race in 10th position, Matthew was really aiming to finish the event on a high.
"I was fighting tooth and nail to gain positions when suddenly my engine started to cut out, and then stopped altogether," he said.
"However, I felt I gained some more useful experience which is the main thing right now."
Matthew also competed at Sandown in the Victorian State Series, where he finished 11th.

James Moffat has been busy training during a hiatus between races.
James' next competition is the first of the endurance races at Phillip Island (the L&H 500) where he will drive with Steven Richards for Ford Performance Racing (Factory Ford Team).
"This will be my debut in the main V8 Supercar Championship Series and I am really looking forward to both Phillip Island and Bathurst," James said.
The team will test the car at a practice session this week.
"It will be a chance for Steve Richards and myself to practice driver changes ... a crucial part of endurance races," he said.
James' next race will be at Bathurst, where he will be doing double duty.
"I'll be racing in the two development series races and the Bathurst 1000," he said.
