James Moffat's winning formula BTS logo beamed around Australia
The Boylan Traffic Solutions brand has been given national
coverage recently with sponsored driver James Moffat's success in the Fujitsu V8
development field. James - the son of legendary racer Alan Moffat - is flying
high, as evidenced by this August 2 article in Melbourne's Herald-Sun ...
SEEING the Moffat name
at the top of the standings shouldn't surprise anyone familiar with V8s.
That it's James rather than legendary father Alan should also come as no shock.
The senior Moffat was renowned for his no-nonsense approach to racing and the
intensity he applied to the sport, on and off the track.
It's a trait that runs in the family, evidenced by James yesterday blitzing the
Fujitsu V8 development field on a treacherous Sandown Raceway.
The Melbourne-based racer led from the start, but said yesterday that pole
wasn't necessarily an advantage.
``The first guy through basically shows the rest where the grip levels are and
it was tough work off the line,'' Moffat said.
It looked it, too, as Moffat endured intense pressure from series leader
Jonathon Webb for most of the race.
Webb was a victim of his own pace and ran off on the last lap, but recovered
well to finish fourth.
His off only highlighted the slippery nature of the track surface and how composed
Moffat's 10-second win was.
Moffat is using Craig Lowndes's 2008 V8 Supercar and is on track to repeat his
extraordinary rookie-of-the year record.
He won the rookie title in the V8 utes in 2005, repeated the feat in the Lotus
Cup in 2007 and was again best first-year driver in last season's Carrera Cup
series.
His talents aren't the issue -- Team Vodafone uses him as a test driver -- but Moffat
is philosophical about making it into the V8 Supercar field.
``It's the same story in every class -- too many drivers and not enough cars,''
a joking Moffat said yesterday.
``As a driver, you focus on your next race and your results, but, yeah, I was
happy with that drive.''
Moffat has two more chances today to add to his tally -- and extend the family
legend.

BTS Australian Manufacturers' Championship Queenslander Lee Castle takes out round three
Above: BTS managing director Peter Boylan (left) presents trophies for round two of the Australian Manufacturers Championship and (right) Lee Castle in action
Putting the disappointment of the last round behind him,
Queenslander Lee Castle struck back emphatically at round three of the Boylan
Traffic Solutions Australian Manufacturers Championship for Production Cars at
Morgan Park on August 8-9. He counted his chances as shot after failing to
start race one at Eastern Creek, but at the new Shannons National round venue
of Morgan Park, the Wilson Brothers Racing Subaru Impreza WRX Sti proved
invincible.
Castle led races one and two, the sprint affairs, from lights out
to flag, despite continued pressure from Class A2 arch rival Rod Salmon that
involved panel contact between the two and resulted in the latter's Ralliart
prepared Smirk.com Mitsubishi Evo 10 incurring a ten point penalty on one
occasion, a spin and a drive through penalty on another.
In the third contest between the two, where they were last away in
the class handicap race, Salmon got the jump on Castle and paved the way
through the traffic until he went off the circuit at the turn four Gum Tree
corner unassisted. Castle eventually fought his way through to the lead for a
perfect weekend's score.

Eddie's big day out at Eastern Creek

Wheelchair-bound motorsport fans and their carers were
admitted to Eastern Creek Raceway free of charge recently, courtesy of Boylan
Traffic Solutions. The occasion was Round 6 of the Shannons Nationals, which
featured the newly-renamed Boylan Traffic Solutions Australian Manufacturers
Championship. The free offer featured on Alan Jones's 2GB Radio Show. One of
the ``wheelies'' who came along later rang the show to thank BTS managing
director Peter Boylan for his gesture.
Eddie Versteeg (pictured above), a long-time motorsport fan, spoke of the
enjoyment the day had given him. ``It is a foresight that many other outdoor
sports/entertainment events could learn from,'' Eddie said. ``It is something
that I rarely - if indeed - ever, have been offered before," he said.

Boylan Traffic Solutions is sponsoring up-and-coming
go-kart racer Daniel Holihan in his efforts in the NSW Premier State Cup this
year. The 20-year-old races in two different series - the Clubman Light and the Senior National
Light - and has made it in to the top 10 on championship points.
``I run up to 30 races a season ... and I
am nearly 1st, 2nd or 3rd every weekend,'' Daniel said.
``Next year ... I also hope to run Leopard Light as a 3rd
and Main Event Class running 125cc IAME Parrilla Engines CIK style racing,'' he
said.
``I am very excited to be a part of the [BTS]
professional race team with Neil Crompton, James Moffatt and Peter Boylan.''
