January 31st and Property Tax
Property taxes become delinquent in the State of Texas on Feb 1. Don't put yourself in a competitive disadvantage. If you had not filed a protest in 2010 on your real or business personal property, you may still do so by January 31. A successful appeal to your property tax assessment could keep you from falling behind your competitors. The Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD), having such a large number of parcels to assess, uses the mass appraisal technique. HCAD does a solid job but they do not have the manpower to assess every property individually. It is up to the property owner or their representative to ensure that the characteristics of the property are correct and that HCAD is aware of all the factors that may affect your market value.
