GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS
CACDC to keynote October's Meeting

rep solomonscacdcMake plans to join us Thursday, October 15th for our Government Affairs Meeting. We will meet in the Large Conference Room at the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce at 9:00 a.m. Updates from officials with the cities of Lewisville, Highland Village Flower Mound, the Denton County Transportation Authority, county officials and state and national officials will be given.

Keynote: Dan Leal, Executive Director, Children's Advocacy Center of Denton County
 LEADS POWER NETWORKING!
Are you looking for a way to get more business exposure?  If you are, then you might want to come to one of our Power LEADS Networking meetings, held every Friday at the Chamber office, beginning at 7:45 a.m.  You can usually count on at least 45 businesses in attendance at LEADS meeting.

We start off the morning with coffee at 7:45 a.m. and then at 8:00 a.m. we officially begin the meeting.  Each person has 30 seconds to tell everyone about their business and what they do.  First time Chamber partners receive one minute to tell everyone about the business.  After the introductions have been completed, there is a slight break and then we have a 10 minute presentation from a Chamber member.  That business then has the floor for 10 minutes to give a spotlight presentation about their business.

Did we mention that this is a FREE event that takes place EVERY Friday morning at the Chamber office, unless otherwise noted?

INSIDER, OCTOBER 2009

Greetings!

Welcome to the monthly newsletter.

eyad Chairman's Message

Time. How do you define it? Is it simply a mark of a day/week/ month/year? We know it is valuable. Are you making the most of the time you spend at Chamber meetings and functions? If networking is your goal, do you arrive in a timely fashion to engage other attendees in conversation? Do you spend adequate time building meaningful, productive personal and business relationships?

You may have been schooled in the thought that people do business with people they know, like, and trust. What have you done to make people know, like, and trust you? What have you done to learn if other Chamber members are people you know, like, and trust?

Perhaps it is time to give each other "the time of day." What exactly does that mean? Examine the purpose of your membership in the Chamber. If you joined just to be able to say you belong to the Chamber and to list the membership on your resume, you are not getting the biggest bang for your buck. If, on the other hand, you joined to make an impact in the community in which you live and/or work and you want to develop relationships, you must attend Chamber meetings and/or events. You must be involved. How else do you get to know people? Surely, you don't think someone will know you or know of you simply because you paid dues to any organization? You are just a name, an address, and a phone number. You are just an entity. It will be potluck pickings that someone will choose you over the next entry.

So is potluck marketing working for you? Doesn't it make more sense to use your dollars wisely and your time even more wisely? Doesn't it make sense to develop and nurture relationships? How can you do that? First and foremost, you must get involved.

Secondly, if you need something, think Chamber first. Do you need a service, a product, an expert opinion, guidance for the use of a service or product, or a referral for personal and/or professional development or a referral for a service or product? If so, browse the Chamber directory. If possible, make an inquiry of a Chamber member. The Chamber member may also be providing member-to-member discounts. Be respectful of other Chamber members and their time.  Engage in dialogue.  Of course, the presumption is that the person you are engaging is conducting himself/herself and the business/service in an ethical/stand-up manner.

This economic time period is most challenging. Many of us are looking for something to stimulate our business, our career, our personal lives, and/or our retirement accounts. Let your valuable Chamber membership work for you. Make sure you come to the Networking Leads Meeting on Friday mornings, become an Ambassador, attend the Chamber Night Out, Join a committee and get involved.  There are so many ways to enjoy the benefits that the Chamber offers.  I look forward to meeting you at the next Chamber function.

God Bless,
