Chairman's Message
The Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors want to welcome you all back from your summertime happenings. I hope each of you had a chance to grab some well-earned rest and relaxation. And now, we need to gear up again. I am reminded of my school days when I had to head back to the classroom. The teacher would ask: "So, how was your summer vacation?" Most of us are probably finished with our classroom days and happy to be done with them. Ah, but I have a similar question. What was the best thing that happened to you? Did you take up a new hobby? Did you try something new and exciting? Did you surround yourself with positive events and positive people? If you find yourself mired in a slump, personally and/or professionally, it may be because you have been doing the same things over and over again or it may be that you are surrounding yourself with similar people. Perhaps it is time to change directions. You may need to invest your time with activities and people who are proactive and who see opportunity at every turn in the road. Perhaps it is simply time to restart your engines with a revised sense of purpose, a renewed spirit, and positive energy. Yes, it may be time to get back to business, but in today's economy, it is not necessarily business as usual. Even if you and your business are in a comfort zone, you may want to take it up a notch. Perhaps you want to make doing business easier for you and your customers/clients. Perhaps you want to enjoy your workday more. Perhaps you are looking to increase profits. If you are ready to take the next step, you may have to examine how you are spreading the word about yourself and/or your business. What marketing practices are you employing? Who is your intended audience? Do your customers and/or prospects know who you are and how to contact you? Is your competition more visible than you and your business? Do you know what to do to increase your visibility? Is it time for a business/professional makeover? Is it time to repackage yourself and your skills? Does the packaging need a tiny bit of tweaking or a major overhaul? Do you need to portray yourself as a new, improved model? Do you need to advertise? If so, what is the most effective and efficient means to do so? What form should it take? Are you a print media type of person or a computer geek? Ever given thought to writing a newspaper or magazine column? Do you run advertisements? Do you need a website of your own? Do you need a presence on the Internet? Should you be micro-blogging; that is, should you be using Twitter? Are you tweeting just to be social or are you tweeting to gain a competitive edge? Do you understand what social networking can do for you and your business? Perhaps it is time to explore how social networks might be able to promote your services, skills, and/or products. Make sure to continue to get involved with the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce. Attend the different functions and educational events. Explore the power of printed media and the power of the internet. What you don't know about marketing may be costing you exposure and customers. Both may be translating into missed opportunities and lost income. So let your Chamber membership work for you. Let the Chamber help you stay current and relevant. Together, we can make a difference!

It will be held at the Lewisville Convention Center inside the Hilton Garden Inn, 785 State Highway 121 Bypass in Lewisville. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. Four speakers are slated for the conference. Dallas speaker Deborah King, AICI CIP, will present "The Art of Communication". She is the President of Final Touch Finishing School, Inc., which she founded in Seattle, Washington in 1989. Deborah brings to the classroom over thirty years of experience in the etiquette and image industry. She is a certified image professional and an active member of the Association of Image Consultants International, National Association of Professional Women, International Association of Protocol Consultants, National Speakers Association, and is affiliated with the Conselle Institute of Image Management. Deborah is an author and is a frequent resource to the media. She travels extensively both domestically and internationally, teaching her principles of etiquette and poise to individuals aged five to seventy-five. Dallas speaker Damian Skinner will present "Get Your Twit Together". Damian began his career in the entertainment industry in 1998. With an ever-growing affection for problem solving, Damian began teaching small to medium sized businesses how to combine "big budget" studio marketing techniques with the grass roots tactics that had proved successful in marketing his own films. Damian learned firsthand the Social Media methods used by major film & television studios to make sales. He also learned the techniques that allowed the viral marketing division to earn close to a million dollars a year. Damian has parlayed his experience and knowledge and formed Riot Lounge, a business-consulting firm specializing in a "multi-prong" marketing methodology. Combining a unique blend of time-tested problem solving techniques with the latest in state of the art trend-tracking, Riot Lounge has created powerful solutions for the Medical, Non-Profit, Agricultural, Real Estate, Retail, Licensing, Apparel, Manufacturing, Security, Automotive, and Advertising industries just to name a few. The third speaker will be Andrew Szabo "The Marketing Chef" and the creator of "Irresistible Marketing" - the development of strategies to make your target audience simply salivate in anticipation of your product-service offering. Irresistible Marketing ensures that' prospects, customers, referral sources and other stake holders think of them first, often and well. Andrew has been CMO of a F100 subsidiary; strategist and business development for the world's largest direct marketing agency; boutique agencies; marketed his own small business; client and consultant to agencies. He likes to combine the traditional with guerilla marketing. 28 years experience in executive management, strategy, business development, marketing & sales provides a seasoned, results-oriented focus and counsel to his clients. Andrew founded MarketingStrategy1 in 2001 which has evolved into Marketing Symphony (MS). MS combines seasoned and creative tactical solutions birthed out of intelligent strategy. The keynote speaker during a plated lunch is Ebby Halliday, owner of Ebby Halliday REALTORS. Ebby became a Texas in 1938 when she was transferred by a national company to Dallas to manage the Millinery Department to the W.A. Green Store in Dallas. Ebby Halliday REALTORS in its 64 years of growth has helped over 19,500 families into home ownership in 2008. Ebby founded the company on service: service to the client, service to the communities they cover, service to the industry itself. Ebby's awards and achievements have filled the book, "The First Lady of Real Estate", to release in the Fall of 2009. Created with women-owned business and area businesswomen, the conference is designed for anyone looking for affordable professional development and any business with a female target market. Tickets to the conference are now available starting at $49 and vendor packages start at $99. LEADS POWER NETWORKING!
Are you looking for a way to get more business exposure? If you are, then you might want to come to one of our Power LEADS Networking meetings, held every Friday at the Chamber office, beginning at 7:45 a.m. You can usually count on at least 45 businesses in attendance at LEADS meeting. The LEADS Power Networking Group has co-chairs this year, and they are Carol Gaige of Denton County Friends of the Family, Inc. and Don Preston of Business Transition Partners.
We start off the morning with coffee at 7:45 a.m. and then at 8:00 a.m. we officially begin the meeting. Each person has 30 seconds to tell everyone about their business and what they do. First time Chamber partners receive one minute to tell everyone about the business. After the introductions have been completed, there is a slight break and then we have a 10 minute presentation from a Chamber member. That business then has the floor for 10 minutes to give a spotlight presentation about their business. Did we mention that this is a FREE event that takes place EVERY Friday morning at the Chamber office, unless otherwise noted? | |
