Chairman's Message
I am continually impressed with the generosity of the local business community. It is especially evident at this time of the year when so many young people are being awarded scholarships by local businesses and organizations. There have been frequent examples of such in the local media outlets. What is most impressive, however, is the fact that many businesses and organizations give much more, usually without any fanfare, and they do it all year round! Whether a large corporation, partnership or single proprietor, businesses go far beyond supplying the local payroll for our workers. They engage and are actively involved in our community, making the City of Lewisville a better place to live and work. Your Chamber is a business as well. Of course our Mission Statement really speaks to our commitment to the business community and the community at large. It is central to our existence and why we strive to do more. Sometimes a prospective member will ask what the Chamber does beyond the networking, advertising, leadership and other opportunities afforded to each individual member. Beyond individual member benefits, what does the Chamber do on a larger, more strategic level? This is a good question. It gets to some of the Chamber intangibles that are somewhat more difficult to explain and understand. It also gets to some of the most significant contributions the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce has made to the business and larger community over the years. Here are some ways the Chamber "Gives back" that are not always so visible:
>> Working on all manner of issues, efforts and endeavors to move forward our shared objectives in the business arena and community. This involves literally thousands of hours on behalf of staff and chamber leadership on countless committees, citizens groups and other community efforts. >> Advocating for businesses, not just on a case by case basis, but for the entire business community, on both state and national issues. >> Looking at ways to improve our business climate and community health. >> Working on issues and other far-reaching concerns that impact business today and into the future. >> "Cheerleading" for our area. Yes we do that! Every day we have an opportunity to promote the aspirations of our community. Sometimes it simply comes down to "representing" in the largest sense of the word. Thanks to all who will make June another productive month at the Chamber and our community; Chamber committee chairs and members, board of directors, Chamber staff, and of course our general membership.Your work, advocacy, and cheerleading is appreciated. Wondering how you can contribute to the Chamber's efforts? Visit our website: www.lewisvillechamber.org and view the events and committee meetings, and make a choice to attend one or more. It is as simple as that, and you can choose to be as involved as your schedule permits.
