Help Us Continue to Grow & Serve...

It's been another amazing semester for the Program in Jewish Studies at CU:
  • Our first Study Abroad Global Seminar, that will explore the Cradle of European Jewish Culture in Venice with Professor Robby Adler-Peckerar, is scheduled for May 2010.
  • Four certificate students will be completing the first Internships in Jewish Studies with the spring semester.  This brand new program pairs Jewish Studies Certificate students with a community organization for a semester of service learning, incorporating concepts of Jewish learning and overseen by a member of the Jewish Studies faculty.
  • Due to the continued generosity of the American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise (AICE), we are very excited to have Professor Zach Levey, our Schusterman Scholar in Israel Studies, Political Science and International Affairs, extend his time in Boulder through spring 2011. He will continue to offer courses in History, Political Science and International Affairs that will be cross-listed with Jewish Studies.
  • Classes continue to fill up while students request even more! With support from a generous donor, we were able to begin to offer courses in Sephardic Jewish Studies with the fall history course, Jews Under Islam
Join us in creating a Program in Jewish Studies that is a beacon of learning for the CU campus and beyond.  Our development officer, Mary McGee (Mary.McGee@cufund.org), can help you match your areas of interest with the strategic goals of the program.  Year-end, on-line tax deductible donations can also be made at www.cufund.org.

Best wishes from all of us at the Program in Jewish Studies for a wonderful holiday season and happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

Jewish Renewal Rabbis Victor and Nadya Gross together with Imam Jihad Turk and co-founder of Salaam Shalom Educational Foundation, Shepha Schneirsohn Vainstein are leading an Interfaith Spiritual Pilgrimage to Israel and Palestine this spring.  The journey begins March 21, 2010 and offers an opportunity for travelers to witness and support a healing for peace between Jews, Muslims and Christians.  This trip incorporates the Waldorf philosophy to education - a humanistic and healing approach that results in students becoming hands-on contributors to society. In 2009, 58% of graduates from Harduf Waldorf High School elected to perform an extra year of community service to work with Jewish and Arab individuals who are homeless, drug addicted or orphaned. The national average for high school students in Israel who choose an additional year of service is 2%.
