press tour of russian journalists

Following the positive feedback from experience of last years, British Council Russia is planning to organize press tour to UK institutions on 26-30 April 2010. We're going to send 3-5 journalists from the leading general interest and business media with strong website presence in Russia interested in education and 1 BC representative.

Through this mission, we aim to promote awareness and develop a greater understanding of UK education amongst potential students and their parents. Our objective is to promote all aspects of study in the UK at each level of education. We also aim to promote individual institutions who will be taking part in this activity.

We plan to invite journalists from newspapers, magazines and websites that are mostly read by parents who send their children to study overseas (well-to-do 30-50 years old audience, interested in high quality education for their children).

Prospective list of participating media (please note that some changes might be possible):

Vedomosti. Kak potratit' (How to spend) monthly lifestyle supplement to Moscow edition of leading business newspaper, circulation 60 000, 2 167 000 unique visitors per week on website www.vedomosti.ru

Profile weekly general interest magazine, circulation 830 000, 52 000 unique visitors per month on website www.profile.ru

Kommersant Weekend weekly lifestyle supplement to leading business newspaper, circulation 84 000, 3 298 000 unique visitors per week on website www.kommersant.ru

RBC monthly general interest and business publication, circulation 112 000

Argumenti I Facti (Arguments and Facts) weekly general interest newspaper, circulation 3 000 000, 1 173 000 unique visitors per week on website www.aif.ru

The British Council will invest in organizing the visit: visas, air tickets to and from the UK, transport in the UK and subsistence for the journalists. After the visit the journalists will publish the materials about each institution visited. Publications are expected in September-October as part of Education UK Exhibition promotion campaign.

We would be grateful if Partners who are interested in hosting the press tour would provide us with accommodation if possible and arrange the visit activities in their institution (suggested activities include tour around the institution, meetings with institution representatives and Russian students, anything else you think is worth of attention).

We hope the group will visit approximately five institutions.

We think that this is a great opportunity to promote your institution. If you would like to join the project, please email tatiana.shashkova@britishcouncil.ru. The deadline for application is 03 March 2010.

If you would like to have more detailed information on last year's press-tour, please let us know.

series of academic workshops
On 15 February we have launched series of workshops that will be delivered by academic staff from UK institutions. The series is called A Touch of UK Education and is aimed at giving potential students a taste of how seminars, lectures and workshops might look like. This initiative has received big attention from the audience. The workshops will be filmed and can be later used for promotional purposes both for British Council Russia and relevant UK institutions. We would recommend all institutions to use the opportunity to organize the lecture/workshop in the British Council should they visit Russia later this year.
