 Suzanne's Babes

Spring is here and kidding season has been in full swing for a while for us now. This is a picture of Nigerian twins at 5 days old. This is why we love what we do. We do on occasion sell some of our babies. This season we have been fortunate to get an overwhelming response from local folks purchasing our babes to add to their family of pets and milking goats. We love to sell our kids to local families and see the sparkle in children's eyes when they come to the farm to pick out their own baby goat! It makes it all worthwhile.

Kidding (verb): Give birth (of a goat).

What's a 5K & Farm-to-Fork Taste-Nic?

Run a 5k or 1 mile family fun run through the town of Davidson. Finish your race on the Town Green, where in celebration, local chefs will be cooking local farm food dishes and providing tastings in a picnic-style setting!  It's a Taste-Nic!

Join the fun and support the Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center and your local farmers!

This Week at the Davidson Farmer's Market!

Strawberry shortcake day is here! Locally baked shortcakes will be served-up with mounds of fresh, local strawberries; then topped with a heap of local whipped cream. Only $4! Shortcakes sales will begin at 9:30 a.m.; continue while supplies last; and benefit the Market! Enjoy your sweet treat and shop the Market for your weekly goods.

Lettuce continues to be abundant, so our recipes this week feature 'lettuce wraps!' You may put anything in a large, crispy, fresh lettuce leaf - especially farm fresh meats, fish, cheeses and veggies! Let the lettuce be a crispy vessel for your protein and local goodies.

Get those veggie plants in the ground! Work your compost (turn it over and watch it steam!)! Gather rain in your rain barrel! Plant flowers! Ask our DFM farmers for advice!

Growing Kids Club will be back on May 5 - just in  time for Mothers Day. Come by the Growing Kids Club booth to help weed and water the garden. Our plants are growing! Make a special gift for mom - decorate a flower pot and plant a pretty flower!

Mark your calendars for DFM's Alternative Preservation Workshop on May 12 at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Organic farmer, Suzanne Ballard, will teach several easy methods that don't require expensive equipment or any equipment at all! Experience summer flavors all year long.

Chicken, eggs, produce, meats, fish, cheeses, baked goods, ready-to-eat foods, honey, herbs, plants and more ~ you'll find it all at the Davidson Farmer's Market!

What's at Market? Check it out - print it out - here!

See ya at the Strawberry Shortcake table!
