This Week at the Davidson Farmer's Market! | |
Yes! The Market is back again. And you can expect the Market to be open every Saturday from now until the end of Oct., 8 a.m. to noon.
Don't be surprised on Saturday when you see the farmers looking heavy-eyed and tired. They've had a few sleepless nights, watching the temperatures, preparing to water their plants to protect them from the freeze. Bobby Houston, Houston Farms, watched the weather through the night on Wednesday. At 4 a.m. Thursday morning, as the temperature dropped, he turned on his irrigation to protect his strawberry plants. He was careful not to water too soon or too much, because water increases the risk of disease. Both Tommy Barbee, Barbee Farms and Greg Hartsell, Twin Oaks, were up all night too...watching and waiting.
I hope we see happy farmer faces tomorrow morning, which will indicate that perhaps their crops are safe and healthy. Feel free to ask them about it.
This week will be similar to last week with vendor offerings. There will be plenty of veggie plants, lettuces, swiss chard, spinach, eggs, meats, fish, eggs, cheeses, baked goods, prepared foods, flowers, chocolates, honey, soap, perennials and dog treats. Be sure to come early for strawberries!
Don't miss our new featured chef, Jenny Brulé, preparing Market frittatas at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.
And, Huntersville Brass will delight the Market shoppers from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Don't miss another great day at the Davidson Farmer's Market!
Check out tomorrow's Market offerings right here.
See ya in the morning,

This Saturday, Jenny will be at the Davidson Farmer's Market demonstrating two frittatas: Vegetarian and Meaty. Both recipes are easy for the home cook to prepare and use local produce found from Market vendors. Come check out the demos starting at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. |

Growing Kids Club | |

Last Saturday, the Growing Kids Club kids planted farmer-raised veggie plants and helped paint the club signs and banner.
The garden bed is filed with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, arugula and squash. It will be exciting for kids and parents to see the plants grow and produce.
No Growing Kids Club tomorrow. Remember that club meets on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Visit the club booth anytime between 8 and 11 a.m.
The Growing Kids Club provides an opportunity for children to learn where their foods come from; to see how it is grown in a natural environment; to taste for themselves how much better produce tastes when it's home-grown; to understand the work that goes into maintaining a garden; and to demonstrate how farmer's make a living by farming.
10 Club visits = $5 Market Bucks!
Come by and see how things are growing.
