The Bailey Middle School Garden Club

Garden Club is making progress, thanks to Bailey dad, Ed Matthews, of Davidson. Matthews installed four raised beds with dividers so each club member may plant and tend two squares.
The DFM is bringing local food education to Bailey Middle School with help from Davidson Students, DFM farmers, Bailey parents and supportive staff.
Kids are writing grants, composting, pulling weeds, planting, making signs and having fun.
It's looking good. The kids will harvest before summer break in June! |

This Week at the Davidson Farmer's Market! | |
The Market is back tomorrow! Bring your kids, friends and shopping bags. Coming to the Market is a great way to start your Saturday morning and give your kids a taste of what comes from local, mother earth.
It's that time of year to ask the DFM farmers some home gardening questions. What should I plant now? What can I direct-seed? Do you have soil suggestions? When should I plant my summer crops? What if I don't have a raised garden bed? What if I don't have full sun? What if I've never planted a food garden? The farmers are always thinking, preparing and planting. They love sharing this with you - their customers! It's very simple...just ask.
We are only four weeks away from the Market being back in full-swing, every Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon. Be sure to mark your calendars for the first official day of the 2012 season, Sat., April 7.
The 2012 season will feature a handful of new vendors and our steady, existing vendors; bringing you their very best. Chef demos, music, Growing Kids Club, community partners, educational events and special food events will make this season a community adventure!
When the spring Market kicks-in, volunteers will be in high demand. If you enjoy an early morning cup of Joe, camaraderie with community folks, rubbing elbows with farmers and vendors, the feeling of accomplishment and appreciation, some laughs and learning - volunteering at the Market is for you! Contact the market manager if you'd like to be a part of the Market family. Everyone is welcome!
A wonderful day it will be ~ see you at the Market, |
