Breakfast of Champions will take place from 10:30 a.m. - noon, featuring four samplings of brats, dogs and sausages from our Market farmers - Big Oak Farm, Chef Charles Catering, Gilcrest Natural Farm and Wild Turkey Farms. The hoagie rolls will be made by our Market bakers - Big Jim, Henry's Wholesome Foods and Millstone. The four North Carolina beer samplings will be supplied by our neighbors and friends - Summit!

It's going to be a shopping and sampling day. Bring the family and enjoy the local celebration.

Is 10:30 a.m. too early for beer and brats?  Come on, it's Saturday!

Brats, Butternut and Beer
from the Flavour Savour

First of all, there are a lot of people who say that a grilled Brat is the only way to go.  Can't argue...that's my preference too...grilled, stuffed in a big old bun with spicy mustard, and served with a side of German potato salad.

But...here's a stovetop recipe - read on!

Cooking Classes in Davidson
starting Sunday, April 29

Wooden Stone Gallery has partnered with the Town of Davidson to offer a series of hands-on cooking classes with a nod to local farmers' markets.

Hands-on cooking classes are just that - you do the cooking.  Details and flyer here.

Best Dish in NC

To find out more about a regional restaurant contest for the best menu items created with North Carolina grown products and ingredients - read here.

It's the Best Dish Contest.  Entries must be submitted by March 3!

Gilcrest Natural Farm and the Baby Chicks

Amy's ChickAt Gilcrest Natural Farm we always know when spring is near because our first batch of chicks arrive.  500 strong, the chorus of "peep, peep" plays loudly on the trip from the post office to the brooder at the farm.  At the farm they are unloaded into several 5' baby pools to enjoy some water and room to roam, and after a few hours their first feed.  The walls of the pools block any air drafts and keep in the heat of the 500 watt light bulb.  Chicks enjoy 90 degrees of heat for at least the first four days while they gain weight and grow some feathers to stay warm.   From then on we slowly decrease the temperature until they are ready to transition to the pasture - 14 to 21 days, depending on the weather and their feathers.  Once on pasture they will enjoy the grasses, clover and emerging bugs.  Our temperate weather this "winter" will be a treat for them.
