This Week at the Davidson Farmer's Market! |
There's no chance you can come to Market tomorrow and not feel holiday cheer. There will be Christmas tunes, produce, greenery, meats, fish, pasta, cheese, eggs, breads, donuts, cookies, honey, soaps, lavender and more!
As you're doing your food shopping, think about the people in your life that would appreciate a local gift. Specialty items may be found at the Market and promised to be made with love.
Mike with Big Oak says, "this is the last chance to get our beef jerky for stocking stuffers and we will have a good supply of standing rib roasts for your Christmas holiday prime rib. I will have recipes on how to prepare them."
Mark and Sarah with Millstone say, "we'll have Sara's selection of Crusty White, Sour Dough, Tuscan, Whole Grain and Stuffed Breads, Beer Bread Sticks, Rustic Fruit Tarts, Croissants and other surprises."
Rita with the Lavender Garden says, "I will bring to market on Saturday: Lip Balm, Lotion, Dead Sea Salt Scrub, Linen Spray, Moisturizing Mist, Dried Lavender Bundles and Soaps."
Grab a mug of Summit Coffee and head out to the Market
for your Imhoff Donuts and Millstone Croissants. Gilcrest is back! And Ms. Betty will be back with her basket bouquets of greens and pecans. Visit the Barbee booth too for pecans. And come early for eggs! Fill your Market bags with seasonal goods for your holiday meals.
And don't hesitate to connect with farmers during the week. Just ask for their business cards or contact the Market Manager.

From the Composting Lady |
I said earlier that to have great compost you need 4 basic ingredients: air, water, browns (leaves, etc.) and greens. Greens are your kitchen scraps. And I should clarify here that I mean kitchen scraps that have no animal byproduct or protein. So your veggies, fruits, coffee grounds, tea bags, rinsed out egg shells, plain pasta, bread crusts- things like that. I like to say "If it comes from the Earth, it can go back to the Earth" in the form of greens for your compost.
What about newspaper or junk mail?, you ask. Well, yes sir, you can compost those. It's a great way to reduce and recycle. Just tear up the pieces of paper and throw it in the compost. More next time. But till then- Happy Composting! Cheers! ~The Compost Lady |
