This Week at the Davidson Farmer's Market!

Last Saturday, Chef Joe Kindred from Rooster's Wood-fired Kitchen, Charlotte, took home the 2011 Winter Market Chef title and walked away with a jam-packed gift basket filled with gift cards, gift certificates, gear and treats from Davidson Merchants.

More than 500 Market-goers visited the Market on Saturday and a few more than 80 patrons sampled and voted for their favorite dish. Amazing smells wafted through the Market space starting at 9 a.m. It was a festive day with Market shoppers traveling as far as Lake Wylie just to experience the Davidson Market.

The chef's mystery items included butternut squash, beets and kale from Barbee Farms, Houston Farm, Lomax Incubator Farm and Cold Water Creek Farm.  Each chef used a Market protein: Wild Turkey Farm ground lamb, Flying Fish Seafood shrimp, Big Oak Farm flap meat, Gilcrest Natural Farm chicken thighs and Grateful Growers Italian sausage.
