Happy Hound's Tail Waggin Treats

The early beginnings of the Happy Hound Bakery all happened six years ago when we got our dog, Lexie. It was a busy year of job changes, our wedding, and then Labor Day weekend we came home with an adorable tricolor pup with a bit of Lab, Border Collie and who knows what else in her! She happily joined our "herd" to the dismay of our two cats, Meeko and Bogey. I have always loved animals but growing up the only pets allowed were a few fish, hamsters, and then a cat (who yes had reached 17 by that year and was still at my parents!). So Lexie was my 1st dog and who knows what number for my husband, Keith, who grew up with dogs. She was soon quite spoiled by the both of us and even accompanied us on vacations!

Always a fan of craft shows, festivals, farmer's markets and the like that Fall I organized a fall festival at the recreation center where I worked. There was food, carnival games, and craft vendors. One of the vendors was a dog treat vendor. He sparked my interest a bit and so I began to research how to bake dog treats and started to create my own. Needless to say Lexie was quite fond of my new hobby! After years of researching, trial and error and many canine friends who "tested" my treats The Happy Hound Bakery was born. My first flavors, Barkberry, Peamutt Paradise, Gingerbark, Carob Nip, and Pawfect Pizzas have all been lab tested for their guarantee analysis and are registered with the North Carolina Agriculture Department. In April of this year the business end became official and we made our debut at the Davidson Farmers Market.

We have enjoyed being a part of the Davidson Farmers Market and are planning to expand online and through local retailers. For current bakery happenings and info check us out on Facebook!

Stargazing at Fisher Farm,

Oct. 14

People of all ages are invited to a wondrous night of stargazing at Fisher Farm Park on October 14th, from 8:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., sponsored by Davidson Lands Conservancy. The Physics Department from Davidson College and the Charlotte Astronomy Club are providing equipment and expertise for this popular, free event.

Upon arrival at Fisher Farm Park, attendees should dim car lights and drive slowly to prevent dust and glare from interfering with the night sky. No registration is required, and attendees are permitted to bring their own telescope. Dogs should be leashed and under control. Go to www.davidsonlands.org now to download descriptions of planets and stars that might be visible, including a worksheet to list observations.

Fisher Farm Park is located at 21215 Shearer Road on the east side of Davidson.  Take East Rocky River Road to Shearer, then head north on Shearer about 1 mile and Fisher Farm Park will be on the left.

To support this and other free outdoor events provided by DLC, become a member for as little as $35 a year. For more information, contact Davidson Lands Conservancy at (704) 892-1910 or dlc@dlc@davidsonlands.org.org.
