Are you a Sweet Pea?

Help us kick-off our Annual Pea Pod Campaign by making a Market donation which will help us continue this fun, family, fresh food Market.  Not only will your donation be very much appreciated and displayed on our fundraising board, but you may be eligible to receive a pea pod t-shirt, bumper sticker or apron.  Come by the DFM booth and help us fill our truck with pea pods!

In abundance this week: Squash, zucchini, cukes and herbs!

How about whipping-up a Market stir fry dish using squash, zucchini, bell peppers, mushrooms, onions and herbs?  YUM!  Add some farm-fresh chicken from Gilcrest; beef from Wild Turkey or Big Oak; pork from Grateful Growers or seafood from Flying Fish.  Easy, delicious and nutritious!

Herbs?  Be sure to check-out Chef Vera Samuels this week.  She'll show you how to use those fresh herbs for making an amazing pesto using basil and parsley!

Upcoming Events
The Pea pod Campaign starts up this weekend and runs throughout the month of June
. The DFM is a wholly community-supported farmers market. The DFM has expanded quite a bit the past few years, thanks to the generous support of our community, which includes local businesses, farmers, and individuals. The DFM is a non-profit organization, and donations help pay for tents and tables, education and outreach, marketing, administrative costs, and insurance. Those who donate will receive either a DFM car magnet, t-shirt, or apron!

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Food Policy Council will be holding a fundraiser Thursday June 9th at the Harvest Moon Grill in order to help their organization grow from an all volunteer effort to a self sustaining non-profit organization. The CMFPC seeks to bring together a diverse array of stakeholders to influence policy in order to maximize the availability, affordability and economic viability of our food shed. more info about them can be found on their website.
