awesome volunteers

Volunteers at the DFM

We have the best volunteers around.    There are too many to name everyone, but let me name a few of the 'regulars', (pictured left):  George Berger, Emma Boraks, Patti Hubble (sister Becky to her left), and Kealy Devoy.  There are so many more dedicated folks that make the market 'go', and you know who you are!!!

What these folks need to know is that by making a place for farmers and citizens to meet, they make a difference in the lives of many citizens and in the greater local food economy.  Their labors -- raising tents, planning events, marketing, writing press releases, articles and grants, crunching the numbers and inspecting farms, organizing, meeting (lots), cooking and even recycling and taking out the trash all make this wonderful food community possible.

Creating a public place for the farmers and other vendors to come sell helps them grow their businesses.  Farmers meet people at the DFM who eventually join their CSA's, come to their farms, buy from them for their restaurants, and best of all, give them encouragement to keep farming.

Thanks to all the students: from Davidson College, Davidson IB, Woodlawn School and Bailey Middle, Cannon School and others who choose to come to the market for their community service hours.   We are excited to see the next generation get involved and learn about food, and we appreciate the fact that their instructors see value in their student's experience at DFM.

Volunteers, give yourselves several pats on the back for keeping this local food economy moving forward.  We appreciate you!
