SALSA SHOWDOWN RECAP
Over 100 market customers voted last Saturday in a taste test of four teams' freshly made salsas, which consisted of mainly market ingredients. We would like to congratulate Doreen McCormick and Christy Williams of TwoPregnant Chicks , who won by a landslide.

The goal of the 10% Campaign is straightforward: Encourage consumers to commit 10 percent of their existing food dollars to support local food producers, related businesses and communities.
Funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation, the 10% Campaign will:
Promote North Carolina's farmers, foods, communities and businesses Educate consumers, decision makers and the media
Collaborate further with the many influential organizations/initiatives already in the field and those just beginning to bloom

REFRESHING COLD SUMMER SOUPS

Chef Vera Samuels cooled off last weeks demo viewers with these delicious chilled soups using honey from Elliot Apiary, watermelon and cantaloupe from Henry's Wholesome Foods and peaches from GoForth's Garden (at The Inspired Garden Booth).
Chilled Cantaloupe Soup Ingredients: 1 cantaloupe - peeled, seeded and cubed 2 large peaches 1 large banana 1 - 1 1/2 cups orange juice 1lime freshly squeezed 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon Directions: Peel, seed, and cube the cantaloupe.
Place cantaloupe, peaches, banana, orange juice, lime juice and cinnamon in a blender or food processor; cover, and process until smooth. Cover, and refrigerate for at least one hour.
Serve garnished with cantaloupe balls and mint sprigs. Chilled Watermelon Soup Ingredients:4 cups seeded watermelon cubes1/3 cup apple juice2 tablespoons fresh lime juice1 teaspoon chopped fresh mint1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger1 tablespoon honey (optional)1/3 cup plain nonfat yogurt (optional) Directions: Place the first 5 ingredients plus honey (if desired) in a blender or food processor until smooth, stopping to scrape down sides.
Cover and chill the soup for 1 hour. Serve in individual bowls with a dollop of yogurt.
